This was on the wire late yesterday:

SiS 735 will run 333 FSB Athlons

Battle of the bulge

ALTHOUGH VARIOUS SITES reported SiS was going through all kinds of problems with its 735 chipset, we now know that's far from the case.
We have now seen a list of customers for the 735 and can assure you there are some big mobo players -from the top 10 and some OEM customers who will adopt the chipset.

Strangely to us, SiS is also pursuing a "white box" policy for some of its products, for customers who want to seel boards using the 735 chipset but don't want it emblazoned with the SiS name.

SIS said it doubled its shipments in August versus July and will see more growth in the next few months. It is marketing the 735 as a "high reliability and high compatibility" chipset.

According to sources at the firm, future Athlons will use a 333MHz front side bus (166 x 2), the next logical step for the AMD chip.

The SiS chipset will support such a processor but for some reason little SiS doesn't want to talk about this too much because of its unannounced nature and features. Even though we've just announced it for SiS and AMD.

The Elitegroup ATX board ATX sells for DM158 in Germany and can be upgraded when the 333MHz FSB Athlons come.

So far, no other chipset supports this unannounced feature. Yet mobo makers are scared that Intel, and perhaps even Via, will put the frighteners on them. µ
