Ok I upgraded one of my boxes to Win2k. However I did not do a format C: and than do an install. it asked me if I wanted to do an upgrade or a clean install. I chose clean install. Now when it turns on I get the prompt to pick either Win2k Pro or Win I assume win means 98 as it was already on the machine.

Now the problem comes in. The C: drive is overcrowded. I have only a 2.3 gig partition on it. so now that I have 2k and 98 on it I only have 490M left on drive. Well this is problem for me as it doesnt leave any room for swap file. Even though machine has half gig memory I think it would still need one.

Question is this. Can I delete all the Windows 98 files without undue problems? is there a way to transfer the files to other partition AND still keep the dual boot option.

I dont know how often I will need to use 98 on that machine but I am hesitant about just dumping 98 so soon after upgrade

thanks for any and all advice, help, and suggestions.

Ok this is kind of a bump and also another question. (bugger me I think I will have to get books on Win2K as well! :) )

does anyone know of a list of the event codes that you can see when you log as an administrator and check the event logs? I ahve a bunch in there and I am curious as to what they all are.

Thanks. Oh and if I dont get more than three views and a reply than I will assume everyone has moved to XP and that I need to get the GD book! :P

I recommend that you format and start from scratch. You now have Win98 in with Win2K, and no space in C right?

Do you have a full version or upgrade of Win2K? If you have a full, then format and reinstall. If you have an upgrade, get a full version of WinNT 4.0 workstation, you'll need it when doing a full clean install. Or last but not least, if you don't have neither, format with Win98 and upgrade and don't use clean install.

There shouldn't be a problem with deleting the windows directory along with it's accociated program files directory, si long as you never try and boot to 98. You can't trasfer all the files to another drive/partiton, you'd have to re-install it.

First things first you need to decide if your either going to want to use both OSs, keep 98 or keep 2k. If you decide on either of the latter options, then i'd reccomend you do a format c: and re-install. Just make sure you have a a working boot disk.(win2k also uses boot disks, 4 of them)

If the first option. Then you should do a format c: and then install win98. Then make yourself anther partiton or buy a new HD and then install 2k onto that.
