ok this might sound hypocritical coming from an Outlook 2000 user but Eudora is quite a nice bit of kit.. I would use it if it wasnt for the fact that I've got months worh of mail in Outlook already and I've got it set up just how I like it

I found Outlook Exp to be the best piece of email software to use. But I've been a Netscape user from the beginning, and found the messenger to be easiest to use. Now Eudora, I don't get this software. It does pretty much what Outlook Exp does, but have 2 million options, and charges $50. No way.

Eudora - one of the original, been around for donkey years (still got v1.2 around on a floppy somewhere) and still going strong. Eudora, used to come in two flavours, Eudora Lite (which was free) and Eudora Pro (paid for version).
Now it comes in 3 flavours, the Lite version (free), the Pro Version with ads (free), The Pro Version with no ads (paid version).
It's the dogs bollocks - no other word for it. Here's why:-
1. Has more filtering control that any other mailer.
2. Has an ini file that allows you to set switches which gives you control which all the other mailers could only dream about.
3. It's not MS, so all the virus and crap written for Outlook and Outlook Express, Eudora is totally unaffected by.
4. Has a lovely dictionary that puts little red squiggles, on the fly, under words as you mispell them. Is also an Englsih dict, not US.
5. Every thing in Eudora can be opened in notepad, including Mailboxes, address book, dictionary.
6. You can move the entire Eudora folder from one drive to another, click on eudora.exe and the program runs - not other program has this ability.
I have only scratched the surface of what Eudora can do....
I have tried Netscape (was quite good in it's early version) Outlook Express, Outlook, Opera, Pegasus (another free email program that's worth a look), Lotus Mail.... and a few others.
Every time I keep going back to Eudora. I'm still using Eudora Pro 4.2 as I don't believe v5.0 has anything extra in it to make me upgrade to it.
Just letting ya knows, there is a whole worls of choice out there, go looking and digging and see for your self what's there, rather than writing something off on hearsay.

I couldn't agree with your more matey, what I tend to do is try and read between the lines about what someone has posted - do they really know the subject or not. I tend to work in two ways - ask around in combination with lots of looking myself.
Anyways :) - What's making you move away form Netscape, or you juz fancied a change?

hey Tech..
well since no one is supporting Netscape anymore (well, not everyone, but ya know what i mean i'm sure) i'm beginning to feel that the "conflicts" between the two browsers are becoming too much of a hassle to deal with..
both browsers have become like tired old dogs, and neither wants to do it's tricks anymore..
so, i'm kinda figuring that if i ditch one, the other'll have more room to stomp thru and can mark all the trees it wants without having another following behind for a sniff..
and again, due to support for the one, or rather a lack of support for the other, it looks like my all time fave is gonna have to go..
maybe i'll do a format first tho and see what 6.2 looks like, as i'm sure it carries the old reliable Netscape Messenger, but from what i hear the Java backing has taken quite a shyt kicking..
i really hate MS sometimes..
sure, i'd be lost without their OS's..but one should still have the option of wanting to work with what's best for them, not what (as you pointed out above) someone else tells them it is..(IE)

I am having the same thoughts concerning netscape. Its ability to display web pages correctly has been trashed by MS.
For now you could just use netscape's email client. And leave the browsing to you know who.

Dramen..
hey pal..that's what i've been trying to do..
but i think IE has something in it that says "hey, we got a double banger here..let's "F" him up and steal all his ram when we run and make web-life in general downright miserable"...
IE is definitely a resource hog!!!!

Yep, I hear ya. Sad, but netscape seems finished.
And Whats the alternative really? Anything a developer comes up with, will eventually suffer the same "conflicts" from IE. Add insult to injury, because now XP has some builtins that are going to chase away a few other progies. What to do???
