Ok, I was just wandering how many people said they wouldn't be going to XP have now got it loaded.
I had it originally, took it off, but have just last weekend loaded it onto my workstations. Why, well work related really - we are rolling out XP at work later this year, and although the majority of XP stuff is in the same place as 2K, there is still new stuff and moved stuff that I need to know like the back of my hand. The other thing is that I'm getting a dual processor board and XP does manage SMP a bit better.
So what's your excuses for the about turn? and you know who you all are...... ;)

I've liked it from the off, sad case that I am :D
I was thinking, Tech, about what you said about your kids begging you to put WIN 2K back on after trying XP on their machine(s).
In my experience, my kids have mostly been very resistant to change, they like what they're familiar with, to the extent that my eldest daughter still has Office 97 on her machine
Also, none of mine liked it when I upgraded Encarta encyclopedia from '99 to 2001. But now they're used to it, they say they realise it's better.
Both their machines (the twins share a room and the same computer) still have WIN98 on them. They've tried XP on my machine and say they don't like it.
And they say it's the older folks who don't like change..... Not so, in my experience.
I'm seriously thinking of forcing XP upon them, but maybe not :beatsme:

Well, I thought it was a bit too colorful in the beginning. But after numerous slow downs using ME even with 512MB of RAM, and the first frizbee ever produced by my PlexWriter, I had to switch. Installed WinXP Pro, changed theme to all plain on grey, and everything's simply awesome. I can't talk about how well memory management is working.

What did i say i'd do with XP.... mmmm..... ahh, yeah try it before migrating. Well that was the plan anyway. At first i wanted to run it as a test bed on my system and when i was convinced that all my apps would run on it and that i liked it i'd move for good. Well it didn't quite go that way. As i was intalling software on XP, i found myself using it and before i knew it my Win2k install had started gathering dust!
Oh well, even the best laid plans can go wrong.

I like MD was going to try XP out before I migrated properly but just before I got around to doing that my 2K install died a death so I slapped XP on it and its been humming along quietly ever since.

Yes i did. It was that patch for BlackICE defender that i installed that solved the problem. I've had none of those BSODs since.

Doesn't take long for XP to grow on ya. When I first installed it, I changed everything to Classic View as that is what I was familiar with. After a couple of installs and being the lazy ass that I am, could not be bothered with the View changing. Really got to like the new interface.
The big plus for me was the system supports just about everything without installing drivers. Setups are really quick. The quickest install I have ever seen. Even DOS, where you spent hours installing programs and adjusting the Configuration until everything ran.
I stick it on peps machines and they usually say that they don't want to change. I tell them to give it a week and if they still don't want it, we'll change it back. No one has gone back.
Maybe I'm just selfish. That Remote Assistance saves me countless hours and miles.
Heh heh.
I got 3 machines here with XP on and I just finished putting it on my mates PC.
I turn off all the 'pretty' stuff to make it look like Win2000.
