He said it was believed that allied fighters had killed over 100 al Qaeda and Taliban members during Operation Anaconda on Wednesday alone. U.S. operation commander Maj. Gen. Frank Hagenbeck told reporters Wednesday that as many as 350 enemy forces had been killed in the previous two days, bringing the estimated death of opposition forces to about 450.
The United States has captured additional detainees in the field, Hilferty said, and has seized equipment and documents in the vicinity of the fighting. Specialists are going through the material and "learning things from it," he said.
Hilferty said Afghans are helping U.S. forces in interrogating enemy fighters by identifying various Arabic accents and nationalities.
