ABIT company, who has recently entered the market of mainboards and platforms for servers and workstations, has announced the release of a new server mainboard. Following the product based on i7500 E chipset, the company announced another dual-processor mainboard WA2A for AMD Athlon MP processors. This newcomer, based on AMD 760MPX chipset has the following specifications: Dual Socket A, four DDR DIMM slots working with unbuffered and registered PC2100 DDR SDRAM modules, AGP Pro slot, three PCI 32-bit/33MHz slots, two PCI 64-bit/66 MHz slots, 4 USB, AC’97 sound, and integrated Intel 82559 network controller.

The mainboard will have capacities for processors overclocking (change of a multiplier, FSB frequency, Vcore and Vio) and will have a DualBIOS technology analogue. ABIT is going to present its Dual Socket A WA2A mainboard at the CeBIT show, although it is unlikely that the audience will be very surprised: the same mainboards will be presented by such companies as Iwill, EpoX, Chaintech, Gigabyte, MSI, ASUS and TYAN.

this is depressing

The WA2A is ABIT's dual Athlon solution. It has an "AMD-style" power supply connector, like the first dual Athlon board from Tyan. Unless ABIT includes an adaptor, this limits the choice of power supplies considerably.anandtech
umm what happened to abit, for a company that suports there overclockers well they do this???? this is ludicrous, why are they going to limit your powersupply solutions?????

Did they say What powersupply's are applicable to this 'new' setting? Perhaps it's related to the stability of the boards performance..

it's the same powersupplies from Tyan, expensive and there isn't many manufactures. you can get an antec 510 watt PSU from new egg for 100 bucks. It's ok if you don't have a psu, but for people like me that are tripping over unused ones and a few that will handle the birden of this board, it makes me think, why buy a board when I have to get a PSU that is specific to that board. what happens if the board don't live up to my expectations and I want to sell it, I haveto take a hit on the psu also unless I want a Tyan board.

word Katz...Stupid move by Abit when other mobo manufacturers are using standard PSU's.

Even Tyan on their MPX Tiger moved to standard connectors. An ATX and a P4 (paralled by a disk drive type connector, an either/or type situation).
