View Full Version : Help - Lost UD . . .
I had to delete the partition that UD was running on - I have repartitioned the drive and will install the OS tomorrow, and download UD again - question I have is, will this have to install as a new device, or can I keep it as the same device it was? And how do I do that?

" I have just installed the UD Agent, and the registration screen has my Windows log in name as my member name. Can I choose my member name?
Yes. Although the UD Agent automatically fills in the Member Name text box with your Windows log in, this is only a suggestion. You can modify the text box with a name more to your liking."
I just put in my UD name and it recognized me and did it automagically. Though I think it gave me a new device string, it gave me the same username and linked me to the PC team.
ummm - Yep. It does that. What I'm wondering, not that it really matters in the end, is whether or not there is a way to keep this device the same as it had been. If it sets it up as a new device, it’ll still crank out the same results, no more, no less, than it did before. I already have one dead device on the list, and there’s no way to remove it. I just dislike having devices listed that are not functioning – I would rather remove them. Anyway, I’ll find out for sure tomorrow afternoon, and post back the results.

Hi Case :)- unfortunately you cannot use same device name (even if you try and register with same device name - it will come back to you and say "device of that name already exisits" and asks you to choose another device name), also, you cannot delete registered devices in Device Manager on the UD websitedevice names.
Now that I have told what's not possible - here is what you can do tho. What you can do, is to rename devices so that they move down to the bottom of device manager - so you can keep you active devices at the top, and inactive down the bottom.
Backup - What I do, is that if I'm doing any work on a disk/partition/new HDD then, I copy the entire UD folder to another location/pc accross network/ burn onto CD.
When maintenance/new HDD is finished, then copy the entire UD folder back - Run the UD installer to the location of the existing folder, UD will pick and use the same files, so it uses the same device name, and even carries on the protein exactly where you left off (say you left of at 42% it will carry on from there)
So, if it's at all possible, make backup of your UD folder, because you can use them later, if there is a HDD disaster/ corruption issues.
HAHA! Good point Tech - yeah, I violated that old rule about backing up important stuff before messing with partitions :) Ah, Well, Live & Learn (or not!)
