Memory manufacturers are at odds with supporting the DDR400 standard which Via is hailing as the sucessor to DDR333. Without JEDEC's ratification of the technology, you can be sure the memory may be relegated to niche markets.

The lack of an official 400-MHz standard from Jedec, however, is sending up a signal of caution. Jedec chairman Desi Rhoden said the system timing constraints would be too difficult to meet to make a DDR-400 standard worthwhile. Some memory vendors agree. "Producing a sample is one thing," said Peter Schaefer, vice president of memory products at Infineon Technologies. "Producing in volume and putting it into a stable system is another thing."
