If you don't have a UPS to protect your hard earned investment, you better think twice. The folks over at Tweaker's Australia (http://www.tweakers.com.au) give a look at the APC Backup-UPS Pro 650.

A UPS, or Uninterruptible Power Supply, is exactly what the name suggests. A study by IBM has shown that a typical computer is subject to more than 120 power problems per month. The effects of power problem range from the subtle keyboard lockups, hardware degradation to the dramatic complete data loss or burnt motherboards. According to Contingency Planning Research, more than 45.3% of data loss problems are caused by power failure or power surges.

APC makes some very good products, I have the UPS 500 Pro and it has saved my butt a couple of times. They aren't cheap though, but how much is your data or hard work worth.

I have the Belkin Regulator Pro Gold 650 UPS and I love it. It too has saved me on more then one occasion. It also has AVR (Auto Voltage Regulation) to keep the line near 110 at all times. I got it for a really good deal about a year + half ago for around $100! It's well worth it.

I need some lightning storms here damn it. So I can have an excuse to buy a big freaking UPS. Had one a long time ago, a UPS unit, but it's too damn heavy and useless.
