View Full Version : Default User Titles - Change or Leave Alone?

ImaginAsian

Members...

Several of our members have voiced their opinions that the default custom titles may be a bit unsuitable for the new members settling in to our forum, particularly the first level.

As a refresher here they are:

Toilet Scrubber - 0 posts
Bedpan Changer - 50 posts
Dishwasher - 150 posts
Head Custodian -250 posts
Sanitation Engineer -350 posts
Custom Title - 400 posts

Posts are counted in ALL forums except General Mayhem.

Should we change the titles, modify some of them, or leave them be?

Vote and let your voice be heard!

Why? They are fine the way they are . . . If you don't like being called Toilet Scrubber, then make some quality posts.

Well, I'd like to see some titles that are not jannitorial services related. As to quality posts, well....

Perhaps (and not medevial, wizrds, or the like) something more debonair, and aristocratic...

But then, meagi alway too stuffi, and business like !!

ImaginAsian

I voted to leave them be. They were meant to be humorous (sp?) and in line with our forum atmosphere.

Just me though since I take most things with a grain of salt especially in a cyber-atmosphere :)

Heck I've got many aliases given to me by you all....mango, daniel san, bitchmonkey, cheap ass, fruity one, 12 yr old, etc etc :D

I voted to keep them the same, but if a person warrants a special title due to some incredible(ly stupid) act before they hit 400 posts then by all means give it to them. Hehe, just wait until you see my re-enactment of Sherman's march to the sea ;-)

The only one might be the bedpan changer, there's just something about that title, lol. Maybe floor waxer or wall washer, I dunno, that's the only one but maybe it's just my mood right now.

I think funny titles are very good and it also sets the mood so to say. The janitorial services do not really relate to what this forum is all about. I would not mind at all if even funnier titles are bestowed on the members. Heck I can't think of what they should be but I guess there are certain members who are good at these things and suggestions should be sought.

I voted change them all.

Keep 'em - I like 'em, even bedpan changer. Them nurses got an easy job nowadays, cover their patient's offering with a scented towel and bung it in a machine, they don't even get to inspect what the donor had for dinner....

Now in my days lad, we had to empty them by hand, even teasing out those stubborn sticky bits with a favourite fingernail...:hhead:

I voted to keep them :) Why? Well, I think they are fun! They are a part of our individuality, what sets us apart from other forums. And if maybe people are offended or too stuffy to accept them, then maybe they are the sort of people that would not fit in well with usanyway...

Everyone of us here grew up with these forum titles and I like to think we area as well adjusted a bunch of individuals u will ever meet any where :goofy: - keep them! People who like them and find them fun and refeshing are probably more likely to be on the same wavelength as us anyway.

These fun titles are a part of us - I like them :) Maybe we could change them to something else, but above all else, keep them fun! :)

I feel for the most part they are fine :D .If there were to be any changes made,it might be to actually change them once in awhile, just to see what new one's might be thought up

now that kinda intrigues me; maybe with an added humorous twist?!
This poll seems more geared to the male populace, so i've withheld my vote for now. I know we Fems appreciate our individualized titles and they make us feel special. :)

Maybe just have new member as the initial title, say 0-10 posts and then 10- 50 start with toilet scubber? That way they can see what's ahead of them:) Hell I dunno, will come back later to see how the wind is blowing before I vote. I don't mind them the way they are and I'm sure any changes will be fine.

Gonna climb back on the fence where I usually roost. Gemini

That is why Bits included the Karma,Spezi and why i'm the executive toilet scrubber.
To me,if the title bothers you,You should check your grasp,on reality. It don't mean shyte,it is the quality of your posts that matter to your forum equals, that will effect your place in this world.

and this world is not the beginning or the end of all, life is an ever changing flux, influenced by your own moods and feelings at the time, you are at, when you have a reaction, to a post, you reply within your general mood at the moment.

as members get to know you, they can see, your mood and react to it as they understand it and what they read into ,your mood at the moment,

too bad we can't deal with our spouses as well as we deal, with each other here!

I'm with Spezi on this one ... I do not like "toilet scrubber" one bit and nor does Nettie, but we are only two/three voices.

Cannot we think of something more original and in line with BitbenderTech.

Come to think of it why not just give everybody the title of "Member" ...

I do like the Ladies to have the privilege of a custom title though. Just like giving them a bunch of flowers.

I'm watching and listening here and am taking points of view on board.

But bloody hell, 'member'? BORING.

I dunno, perhaps for the first ten posts, a new member should be called 'newbie' or something and in the welcome thread that Bits always seems to set up, one of the admins or mods could point out the naming of newbies after ten posts.

And explain that it's just a laugh. And after 400 posts you can call yourself what you like.

Goddamit, what happened to sense of humour?

At least peeps don't get called 'Stank Cheese' like over at [H]

And as for political correctness? I don't think you'll find anything really offesive on this Forum, unless you're an out and out puritan.

Far as I can see, anything racist, sexist (sort of) or nasty will get stamped upon. Fast.

Everybody is welcome here, y'all know that. Except for assholes ('scuse me). And that means anybody from any background, race, creed, culture, religion from around the whole wide world.

A sense of humour's not too much to ask.

But, whatever, the rule of thumb is 'where members rule' and this is a poll. I'm sure the admins will take note and if enough people ain't happy wielding a bog brush, I'm sure it will be changed. Which is fair enough.

Spezi (in particular) and Mucks. All points noted. It is genuinely food for thought. Please forgive me my little rant, that's just where I coming from.

Good comments coming from both camps!

My position has not changed...Im with Flops, Tech, Piggy James, and the others on this one. But that's what a poll is for...so folks vote.

As of right now, the leave em is winning by a huge margin.

I think Tech said it best though, if those who join up and get offended by the title immediately, well they better off not staying because they wouldn't fit in with our atmosphere!

But heck i support changing it as long as its still funny and not geek stuff.

Maybe its my take on the cyber atmoshpere or being forum hardened. I take things all in stride and like being seing forums with funny and unique features...makes me feel at home!

As for appealing to the masses, I think most of us here rather gain members one by one who fit in with us then having to "sell" out to get to be a popular site. It will happen just will take time :)

After reading all the posts,I can see the pro's and con's of both sides. As Spezi pointed out, maybe some do take offense to being called a toilet cleaner,or some of the other names. However as IA pointed out,it depends on the person, and if they would fit into the atmosphere that this forum has.

I feel the bottom line is if and how it affects potential new member's,and if the forum wants to change it's style to accomodate those that find it unappealing to have the titles now in use.The forum is definately growing, and I do believe that with growth, change is inevitable at some point and time.

Ya know, toilet cleaners are one of the most under-apreciated group of folks on this planet. I mean, somebody's gotta do it.

You go to have a sit down in a public karzi, last thing you want is an overflowing WC or bloody great skiddies up the side of the pan, is it?

Or some bugger (has to be male) has managed to make the seat look as though it's just been under a Spring shower.

Nope, that's where the toilet cleaner comes in. He/she will make your life pleasant. You'll be able to sit down in comfort, read the paper, and be assured that there's a plentiful supply of paper. No puddles on the floor, no foreign objects stuck to the seat, and if you're real lucky, hot water, soap and a towel afterwards.

Then step back out into the world feeling good.

So you see, the toilet scrubbers of the world are the good people and they shall surely receive heaps of Karma.

You know it makes sense ;)

I vote to change all. I took umbrage with my title when I first signed on and it was promptly changed. Little did I realize that fems were treated differently (and rightly so, so bugger off :) ). But the fact remains, I was bothered by it and I don't have the male ego which is sensitive to rank. Nor was I familiar with the humor of BBF, nor did I already know any of you from other forums so I didn't know how to 'take' that title. Nor, nor, nor.

It is difficult enough trying to integrate or make one's self known in a forum and a title such as toliet scrubber can make a person feel even more of an outsider. And once you begin to have more members, that can become more of an issue because it is impossible to respond and make everyone feel welcome and the title can become an albatross to the person involved. "I'm just a lowly scrubber so no one listens to me, boo hoo". Actually they may be an arsehole, but that's beside the point. They're stuck on that thought.

400 posts to be promoted?!? Way too many.

I've also noticed that males can have their title changed if they speak up about it, like Spezi and Tuffie did. But that is not fair to the others who've been unable to get their titles changed, or simply didn't think to complain about it. Talk about being made to feel even more of an outsider. What kind of BBF image does that promote? It means some members are favored over others thats what it means. :(

A different, less demeaning ranking would be better. Face it, the current one obviously rubs peeps the wrong way. The wizard ranking sounds good, or about one based on flowers?

New Pansy
Big Pansy
Old Saggy Pansy
Mango!!!

Bitchmonkey, oy that's funny. :O

PS. I know 'bugger' is a very insulting term in the UK, but here in the US it's kinda cute sounding.:}

Tuffie
05-21-2002, 06:31 PM
I dunno Skamp :D ,I've read a lot of good posts that had your name on them, just lately too.We all have a right to say how we feel, and I respect anyone that exercises that option. Some people say what they think, rather than how they feel.Hell I might think almost anything, but that doesn't say much about how I feel

Ahh maybe the post counts need to be adjusted...good call Mons.

As for males having their title change, Spezi and Tuffie are the biggest 911 PITA UD folks here so I just did that to spark interest in the Project. Not due to any complaining on their end although they do COMPLAIN a lot...hehe :D

I know where you are coming from though...but just want to make record clear no favoritism was intended :)

Keep the opinions coming folks!

Oh yeah, James should be stripped of his executive toilet scrubber status and be demoted to um, something, uh, else. Oh, nevermind, I'll just practice peeing standing up and make a mess for ya'll to clean up. According to this site the first 50 attempts can be very messy.

havent takent the time to read everything, sorry, my thoughts, post count thingys aren't that important, thought thats why bits gave them nice and degrading names, to emphasize this, hang around long enough and you make up some stupid title that shows no bearing at all of "what you are" if it will make some others happy with new names, then change them, take my custom one away if you want call me a toilet scrubber, (heck i do scrub them) call me a call girl, a bottom feeder, i'm much happier joking at it then getting serious about it, people can see the quality of the member by what they say not the number of posts they have, and if they can't, find somewhere where they do make a fuss over the title, sinc. lurch
