I'm getting improved results w/ the new VS08 over the previous VS06 for the Lite-On LTR-48125W. Using Nero CD Speed, free benchmark program from http://www.cdspeed2000.com/, I was able to get the follow results.

Using TDK/Ritek 32x 700MB Media
Avg: 37.09
Start: 21.79
End: 48.95
Speed: 22x-49x CAV(37.09x avg)
Time: 2:34

Using TDK/Ritek 48x 700MB Media
Avg: 37.26
Start: 21.80
End: 49.23
Speed: 22x-49x CAV(37.26x avg)
Time: 2:32

Damn, close score. I love my TDKs! Got a few KingPro/MultiMedia Masters Machinery 24x 700MB, these stop writing at 46x in CD Speed. I do remember VS06 able to make these 24x go up to 48x End. But I could be wrong.

Zammy, i recently bought a new Lite-On burner. (one of the models you mentioned above) What are these "firmware" updates and what will it do for me?? I'm relatively new to burning.

Tush, there are two forms of firmware, official and unofficial. Both will correct minor writing and reading error, and supports more medias, especially no brand cheap medias. The official firmware obtained from Lite-On's site comes in .EXE format, and you can only run it in windows. It also checks the current CDRW's firmware confirm that it's flashing the right model. The unofficial firmware comes in .BIN format, which you'll have to run in DOS w/ a flash program. The benefit of this latter method's so people can overclock their CDRW using firmware from a faster model, though the chipset has to match. Another plus is rebadged Lite-On CDRWs can be flashed to official Lite-On. Unofficial Lite-On can be found here. http://liteon.notrix.net/ And just in case you decide to buy a Lite-On DVDROM, you can make it hardware region free by going here. http://digitri.tk/ To make it software region free, download Region Killer 2 from CloneCD's official site.
