Does anyone know the specific differences between the KT7, KT7A & KT7E mobos by Abit?

Thanks...

KT7 uses the KT133 chip. Basically it supports a 100mhz fsb and PC133 support.

The KT7A uses the KT133A chipset which supports 133mhz fsb and PC133 support.

KT7E is a weird one and doesn't have "official" 133mhz fsb support, but does run just like the KT7A from what I remember. It also has PC133 support. It was basically a value version of the KT7A.

Well...I can pick up a brand new KT7E for $45. I can also pick up a KT7 for the same price...but it would seem that the KT7E might be the better option...

Yep, the KT7E is a better option than the KT7. Unfortunately, it will max out at 1.4 like your KT7A.

So for about $60 (only $15 more), you could get a board for you that supports higher than a 1.4 and give your wife your KT7A. Just a thought. :D

Okay, I'll shut up now. :D

BTW, did you ever find out what version you have?

Also, Newegg has the KT7A-R for $49 refurbished. There is some risk involved, but they do have a return policy if you have problems. I bought my current KX7-333R from them refurbished and the center lug was damaged. But since I don't use it, I kept it. Been running great since.

The also have the ECS board for $35 refurbished. :D

Yep...my current KT7A-RAID is v1.0. I'll take a look at the refurbished one at newegg.com.

They also have a KR7A-133R for $39 KX7-333 for $45, and a KX7-333R for $49

So why are you stuck on a KT7A board? Don't get me wrong, I love that board. Still have and run one of 'em. But I also have a KR7A-133, KR7A-133R and 3 KX7-333R(s) and I like 'em even better.

In fact, I shouldn't even have looked at newegg's site! Mighty tempting. :)

Serlv,

Kawika is on a budget and can't swing the DDR. He also needs more than 2 dimms, that's why he doesn't like the ECS board.

Ahh, gotcha. Great board for straight SDRAM! I love mine.

Yep...at the moment that is the biggest limiting factor for me...I have over a gigabyte of SDRAM PC133 available to me...and I really don't want to upgrade to a new mobo & new RAM at the moment...my budget is a little tight at the moment...so I'm really just looking for the best way to make use of the parts I have available to me at the moment. I'm kind of leaning towards the KT7E. I can get that one for $44.95 in a brand new retail box. That should be able to house my 900 mHz T-Bird nicely.
