I must be staying in my keep too much, didn't realize these were out there, something to think about for sure.
DansData checks out thermally controled 80mm fans from both Cooler Master and Thermaltake, check it out here (http://www.dansdata.com/2fans.htm)
Kudos to ocaddiction (http://www.ocaddiction.com/) for the pointer
I guess the coolermaster looks ok if you really need a variable fan.
The thermaltake just bites tho  People are just ripping the thermistor off to run it at full speed.

looks handy... my temps vary so much through the 24 hours... including the time when I'm in theory asleep ( it full loads at 49C in the day, its now 4:27AM and its at 43C ) so varying the power to the fans automatically seems like a good plan. My system is quiet enough to be honest but its something to bear in mind in the future
