I just got given a 92mm delta fan.....

3800rpm pushing 67cfm

core temp down by 5C, and way less noise.....

so down from 42c full load to 37c on my 1.5 gig athlon.

damn ys-tech peice of garbage couldn't manage even close despite the big noise!

i would include a pic, but who wants to see a nice shiny copper hs with an insanely big fan on it?

btw.... itjust fits on the four corners and no more!

ok already.....!

btw.... that 1.5 gig athlon i mentioned in the prev post.....

actually a 1.4 running at 1.6 :D

big fan doing it's job :)

OMFG does your computer case spin around with that on?

that's nice to get a drop in noise and heat, kinda a rarity. you usually have to sacrifice noise for cooler case (unless you *ACK* water cool.)

pretty fan

Hey Martz!! Doesnt your car overheat without the Radiator fan mate. You must like livin' it LARGE :)

Seriously good news Martz - Nice one :)

Ya know, I won one of them 92mm fans in a competition somewhere once, ain't arrived yet though.... :(

Martz, hang on mate, I'll just look it up. Ruffles through paperwork, taps with finger, aha, here it is - Bitbender Forums. Fella called 026TB4U or someone supposed to send it.

Perhaps the company went under? Oh well :(

Hee-hee - where is his ass lately anyways? Only takes so long to do a house up a bit. 3 gallons Magnolia - done :)

Martz actually started that puppy up with the case open. The Northern Ireland Trees Wuv Inteligent Talk( aka NITWIT ) claim the punishment to the house plants was beyond cruel and inhuman and plan to file suit to save them.see pic below

the house plants were fine james, tho i cant say the same about the two sparrows that passed by my windows this morning......

Me go find out what up with 0-60 for you bra!

BTW...nice one Bulldog, I also got a 92mm Fan on My Alpha

90mm on the Alpha? Man, you gotta show some pictures. And directions would be nice too.

So Martz, this YS-TECH fan i'm getting with my SK6, is it really that bad? Do you think i should ditch it and put an 80mm case fan on top instead?

martzweb
12-24-2001, 08:22 PM
well if it's the same one as mine was, it's complete wank to phrase it correctly:

Well, i've got the thing running, i see (or should that be hear) what your saying about the noise, but it aint that bad. (I'll give a final verdict after having tried to sleep with the thing on.)

My Idle temps are about 39ish, as far as i can see it's ful lloading at about 41 which is amazing compared to the old coller master i had on it.

Now all i have to do is unlock the multiplier and see how fast this baby will go.

Wow... I'm seriously impressed... I think it might be worth knocking something similar up for my Duron

floppybootstomp
12-27-2001, 01:48 PM
Those are good temps. I'm getting the same from my Alpha 8045 with a T-Bird 1.2 @ 1.3. Antec case, 2 x stock Antec 80mm fans exhausting (quiet) 2 x Evercool 80mm fans blowing in (a little bit noiser than the Antec fans but still quiet). Also using an Evercool 80mm on the cooler.

Room temps usually about 21C. The Alpha came with an 80mm Sunon fan but it was quite noisy. But I did get a lot lower temps. Something like 32C & 37C, idle & load.

And if I turn off all case fans I still get 49C on load and it's ultra quiet :)

The SK6 sounds like a good cooler to me, nice one :hat:

Mad dog
12-27-2001, 02:16 PM
Yes the SK6 is nice; i'd say it's down to the 80 odd copper fins that it uses to spread the heat around. I've had the thing crawl up to 45 odd on me when the room gets warm, but i haven't really had a change to fiddle with the air flow in the case just yet. Only got one case fan working with the CPU, the other one is cooling the 2 HD i have raided at the mo.

I'm thinking about getting an adaptor that will let me properly attach a bigger fan to the heatsink.

Hey K, when we get back to uni, we can have a propper modding session, make the most of this artic silver i have to.

what do you mean.....

I just noticed something scary about this YS-TECH, it makes my whole case vibrate! If i just lay my hand on the top of the case i can feel the little bitch go. I am going to have to get a better fan for the thing.

Any suggestions? Something like a 92mm or 80mm that pushes a lot of air and makes very little noise

floppybootstomp
12-27-2001, 04:43 PM
Hee-hee, yup I know that feeling. I got a Taisol Sckt A cooler on one of my old K6-2 rigs with some nondescript 60mm fan on top. Does a great job but everything vibrates.

These Evercool fans I have may just suit you. I found they're a good compromise between cooling and noise. They're less than a fiver each as well. Now I just gotta find a link, they're on one of those UK overclocking sites somewhere. Bear with me....

Here ya go, here's a link A link (http://www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk/productinfo.php?codeid=800317) and below is a pic. I don't think they charge anything for p & p as I remember so for that price it gotta be worth a try. They do a four pin version as well.

Mad dog
12-28-2001, 08:21 PM
Cheers flopps. Although that fan only pushes about 3CFM more than the YS-TECH i currently have, i'd rather have one with more air flow if i'm going to the hassle of putting a big ass fan on it.

KaraK

nice lnk fbs... methinks a couple of those evercools might be the case fans I'm looking for

Mad dog
01-06-2002, 06:59 PM
I just a thought, why not stick a 120mm fan on it, loads of airflow + low noise!

If i'm going to do a fan mod may as well go to the extreme. :D

ImaginAsian
01-06-2002, 07:05 PM
120mm will probably be too much Dawg. In general, the fan "dead airflow" center increases with the size of the fan diameter. Thus a 120mm will have a large center dead flow which would basically be over the heatsink. Most of the airflow will be generated at the fan outer radii and thus be wasted over the sink.

I thought about using a 120mm with my Alpha mod but came to the conclusion that a 92mm is about the largest you can get away with without compromising!

Also the larger fans do push out good airflow volume BUT they are dispersed over a larger area then a smaller fan which allows airflow to be concentrated over the area they cool. What does this means? In general, don't expect an equivalent cfm larger fan to cool as well as a smaller fan over the same concentrated area.

Mad dog
01-06-2002, 07:18 PM
Ahh, but you see, i have a cunning plan. I'm going to build an adaptor for the heatsink that will concentrate all of the airflow from the 120mm,into an area of 60mm.

Something like this

120mm fan

Now there's a thought :D

How long did it take you to type that diagram out? LOL!

ImaginAsian
01-06-2002, 09:08 PM
Kewl Dawg. Just make sure adaptor doesn't imped airflow causing backsplash. Many commericial fan adaptors exhibit these symptoms and really aren't worth it. I think a ducting system would be ideal if you can do it. That would be sweet to see :)

Mad dog
01-07-2002, 01:52 PM
flopps: YEs it took threr goes to get it right, for some reaon the software decides that it doesn't like habing lots of spaces shown so i had to use commas and so forth to fill in all the gaps:grr:

IC: Yes, i see your point, i'm going to make the sides real steep so as to minimise the backsplash. Also will be looking for a fan with high static pressure to help with this too.

I think i'll have to attach the adaptor to the case rather than the heatsink since the weight of such a rig could break the connector on the zif socket. It's gona be fun, and i'll be able to have a mines bigger than your bout with Martz! :D

If you are going to try and make your own fan adapter, try to go for one with the sides curving in. Its called the venturi effect, used on carburetors in car engines. The air coming out the smaller end is faster than the intake at the big end. Less resistance to air flow.
Not sure what you would make it out of tho.

prod.. would that be a similar principle to the adiabatic cooling effect ?

Mad dog
01-11-2002, 07:29 AM
Thanks for the tip, but as you said, making something like that would be real tough unless you used something like paper or cardboard, not a good idea really. I was thinking more along the lines of some clear perspex(it would look good in the photos that way:D ). I was thinking about epoxying the thing togetherand maybee using some metal brakets to give it strength, and possibly some black rubber trim to give it a nice finish.

too bad md that i can't let you burrow my dad's drill press, then you could take a solid piece of plastic and cut from the inside out, it only weight 150 lbs and is as tall as my sister, so shipping back and forth should be easy :) lurch

I'd just super glue it. JB has one of those, but instead of wasting big bucks on that piece of crap, he used cups. Hey, that pic looks rather familiar. Got that from FrozenPC?:D

prod

Here:
fan ducts (http://www.e-compuvision.com/ducts.shtml)

And believe me, Im all for the cheap-ass approach to overclocking.
If the cup fits.... :spin:

Mad dog
01-12-2002, 09:31 PM
Umm, a fan duct isn't really what i'm after, for one thing they don't slope much and they are way too tall. I need to keep mine low profile otherwise it'll be in the side of my case and i aint cutting hole into my Chieftec Black Dragon:growl:

Thanks for the tip.Though, i'll try and post some more details of my ideas at the end of the week, i've a shit load to do this week to impress my final year project supervisor.

prod
01-14-2002, 01:26 AM
Hmm I see what you mean. There are lower profile adapters, but I would guess the efficiency is not the same. Not sure if it would help any more than the diagonal mount you already have.
Most cpu fan adapters are screw mount, so it might be difficult to put on an sk6.
Heres a review of some at amdmb: Fan adapters (http://www.amdmb.com/article-display.php?ArticleID=78)

It will probably look and work better than any of those off-the-shelf cheap plastic things. :)
