View Full Version : Best type of paint?

I've decided to spray paint an old midi ATX case. There's only two parts to paint, the front cover which I've taken off and the 'U' shaped metal case cover.

The front panel is beige plastic and the case cover is metal sprayed with mildly flecked beige paint of some sort.

I'm assuming I'll have to rub both parts down but I'm wondering which type of spray can paint is best to use. And should I use a primer?

TIA :)

sand it to rough it up. I would use primer on the plastic but not on the metal. I use Laquer finish on my cases when I do paint em. You can also use enamel paint. As the case is indoors I dont think you need worry bout rust-resistant paints.

The plastic portion you'll need to sand or rough up as well, otherwise I do believe it may just flake off after a time.

I don't know much about Painting Flops but I know JB will have tons of good info for you. I remember his painted boxes came out really nice and he used some type of special paint...can't remember what it was. Hopefully he will see this thread.

The Heretic, IA - Thanks.

I've got me's a big spray can of enamel purple metallic paint and I've started rubbing the case down. On my way home later today I'm gonna get me a spray can of primer. I thought about it, if a job's worth doing.... So a coat or two of primer it is.

Nice link. That paint looks good and I reckon it would do the job. Bit of a limited colour range, I thought.

But I've already got me enamel primer & paint, spent today rubbing down and cleaning off the case, first coat of primer goes on tomorrow.

Also I've replaced the 2 front of case LED's with blue ones.

Currently looking for good decals/transfers for the sides of the case.

This is either gonna look real good or I gonna waste a case if I make a pigs ear of it :)

Prod - :O Yup, I'm 4' 11", have bedded 4000 females and am quite fond of Paisley :)

I've finished the case now, it came out quite good. Learned that it's quite difficult to get a good smooth finish on plastic - I rubbed down a bit too much I think and at certain angles the light will show faint scratch marks.

I've taken pics but don't have a digital camera, I just gotta get the film processed then I'll post a few pix.

I was going to use the case myself for my second rig but my daughter took one look and wanted it. So it's now housing her MSI Turbo 2/Duron 750 setup.

The blue LED's with the purple look a bit wicked :D

Still looking for a logo. Daughter is 15 and she wants Winnie The Pooh on the side
