Partition File Bad ??????

First it's a bad HD............now when I use Partition Magic to split my 80 gig HD in half it comes back and tells me the Partition file is bad.................now what, never had that one before, no wonder sometimes it can't find the HD...................Does this call for a complete reinstall???????????

Hmmm, maybe a bad drive? Did you try running a scandisk surface scan?

maybe not bob, how are your drives setup on the ide controller?

for example:

primary master=80gb hd
primary slave=none
secondary master=cdrom
secondary slave=cdrw

Double check to see that your hd jumper is set correctly, especially if it's a Western Digital drive. if the drive is a master with no slave attached set it up to be a single drive.
