Why are there 2 versions of the cd1 - 3? Which one do I need to download, what's the difference between them?
I'm guessing it's these 3 that I need?
shrike-i386-disc1.iso 13-Mar-2003 22:26 638M
shrike-i386-disc2.iso 13-Mar-2003 22:30 646M
shrike-i386-disc3.iso 13-Mar-2003 22:35 485M

The ones that have SRPMs in the filename, are source code rpm packages that need to be compiled. Those are not what you want at this stage of the game. The ones you have listed here are the ones you want to download.

They should have the same filenames between the different FTP's, so just look for those same 3 files on the Mirror FTP's

This seems to be the fastest place I have found for downloading from ftp. I use an FTP program tho, I'm not sure you can get them through a web browser. Also, don't know if it makes any difference that you're on the other side of the pond. ;)

WS_FTP LE is a free version of an FTP program if you don't have one.

Right, was going to put these files onto CD but they are over 1GB each? Am I missing something here?

Something is wrong... the iso files are NOT one gig each.

shrike-i386-disc1.iso 653312 KB 03/13/03 21:26:00
shrike-i386-disc2.iso 661632 KB 03/13/03 21:30:00
shrike-i386-disc3.iso 496672 KB 03/13/03 21:35:00
Did you use some crazy download accelerator software that multitasks downloads and assembles your file from multiple sites?

no, just used the IE download facility, then I extracted them and they came out at over 1 GB each, could someone give me a dir listing of which files should be there?

when I downloaded those, I didn't extract them, I made a CD from each file using the ISO burn facility in Nero

All of those files should be in there. You do not extract a .iso... just burn the .ISO to a cd-r.
Thats the whole point of a .ISO, everything that you need is already included, saves you from having to gather all the individual files and creating the "shrike-i386-disc1.iso" to begin with.

Yes, you must create CDs from the ISO files. An ISO is an image of a CDROM filesystem that your CD recording software uses to make an exact copy. The installation CD will be bootable.
You don't extract them first, and take care not to just burn a copy of the image file itself :-)
In Easy CD Creator, from the File menu that's "Create CD from Image" (older versions) and "..from Hard Disk Image" (or something like that) in newer versions. Not sure of the exact path in Nero.

Nero:
Open Nero.
Close the Wizard Window if it opens.
File
Burn Image
Drag & Drop your file right to left
Burn
:)
Or if you are running XP you can install this power toy:
http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
Once installed, just right click ont he ISO file and select Burn CD. It will use the built XP capabilities to burn with whatever speed you tell it to.
