OK I've got the Live! 5.1 and the DTT2200 5.1 speakers and I'm trying to get Dolby Digital to work properly, I've tried both PowerDVD 3 and WinDVD 2000 and in both I don't get the middle channel. The center speaker responds under the speaker test but other than that I never hear a peep from it. Not during movies or Mp3's... nada
This is really pissing me off since I'm a big DVD kinda person and I've done out of my way to get some decent sound going on here and its not working :grr:
I too have the LIve5.1+, but I have Altec Lansing 4+Subwoofer setup. It plays center great with ATI's DVD center.
plug arrangement? I mean, green, and the second (black, in my case) in the one just next to it?

for the DTT2200 it's got three plugs, black, green, and yellow.
The black and the green are the front and rear with the yellow providing the centre and sub. The sub works fine as does the front and rear. The strange thing is that the centre channel does work when I do the speaker test in AudioHQ

think I've fixed it!
I had to install that bloody annoying "Creative Launcher" and use that to set "movie mode on" when I want to watch a DVD, this appears to work.

Karak, can you refund the Live 5.1? 'Cause you know there's always the alternative. Sweet ass Philips Acoustic Edge. Damn, I'm at it again bugging people. My bad.:D

no can do AmStoned - I didnt buy the card it was a present, and that was at Christmas '00 so even if I (a) knew where it had been bought (b) had the receipt I doubt I'd get away with RMA'ing it

MD: yours probably - there's bound to be too much crap in mine. The problem might not be fully sorted though since last time I tried to watch a DVD the centre speaker worked but the voices were really quiet and you couldnt hear the dialog properly :(

Hi Karak - I have an identical setup to you SB Live 5.1 and DT2200 speakers. The only module that you need apart from the drivers themselves is the Surround Mixer - don't install any of the rest of the crap on the Creative CD. I do a custom install, and only select the driver and Surround Mixer.
With Surround Mixer there is a "Film" mode which gives you centre sound from the middle speaker. (In fact I never have a situation where it isn't - have you told the driver you have a 5.1 speaker setup?) I use "Film" mode with WINDVD and it works beautifully with the DT2200 speaker setup.

Tech: have found the option you mentioned in the mixer - think I might cut my install down to just that. I THINK its working at the moment but I havent had chance to watch a movie properly to tell and since I've now packed my DVDs ready to take back to uni it'll be a couple of days..
In response to your other comment yes I have set it to 5.1 speakers and the only time I get middle channel sound is either with movie mode on or during some EAX stuff

You should get sound from the middle speaker pretty much all the time. I'm sitting at another PC typing this, but tomorrow evening I will post the general settings I use in Surround Mixer.
We'll get this working for you :)

OK, a day late, but here goes.
Settings for listening to CD
1. Launch Surround Mixer and click the EAX button.
2. On the *Task drop* down menu select "Listen to CD"
3. On the *Preset* drop down menu select "EQ: Pop"
4. Click the Speaker button and make sure 5.1 that 5.1 is showing.
5. Shove in a CD and away you go - sound outta all speakers!
Settings for watching DVD Films
1. Launch Surround Mixer and click the EAX button.
2. On the *Task drop* down menu select "Watch Movie"
5. Shove in a DVD and away you go - sound outta all speakers!

ok.. that didnt work, But...
I've found that since installing WinXP I thought I was screwed since the drivers I've got dont come with the Movie Mode preset however all is not lost since I've got the option in WinDVD for "Enable S/PDIF" and enabling that appears to give me 100% correct Dolby Digital, the middle speaker is there, the voices are at the right level everything. Hurrah!
So 10 months, 3 different drivers and a new version of Windows later I finally have the Dolby Digital setup I wanted...
