View Full Version : Can't See Full 160GB Drive
Just installed a 160GB HDD, and I noticed I only show about 120GB. Did a little research, and found out that XP will not recognize more than 137GB - WTF?
Looks like this was fixed with SP1, but you still need to enable it. Found this on MS's site, thought I'd share . . . .

Anybody else have this problem?
Is there an easier fix?

Other than putting on sp1?
if you don;t have to proper level file, then you would need to update the atapi.sys file. that fix for data corruption contains the correct file, so you could get just that file, install it and do the registry hack.
or carve it up with partition magic.
(hope you got 2 of em, cause ain;t no way you're gonna back that thing up on cd's(114) or dvd's(17) (numbers are with a 50% compression))

Yeah, throw it on a Promise ( or other brand ) RAID card. I believe that'll do the job. I have a system that uses a 160GB WD drive. The drive came with a card. However you can get some relatively cheap.
Here are some:

Cool.
All I had to do was install SP1, and up popped the rest of the drive.
:)
Just for reference, it's XP Pro on an MSI KT4VL motherboard.

that is true Case, also if you have an Intel board, installing the intel ATA drives, even without the SP1 update will recognize the total drive size.
What I did was to slipstream win XP with sp1
