This poster seems to be asking the same question I have. Can you use this 2.4.xx kernel patch on a 2.6.xx kernel? My spanish is somewhat lacking and wonder if he has an answer in here.

Gracias.

In general, no, you can't apply a patch to a kernel it's not meant for. A patch like that will be adding sources... they'll probably not compile (headers will be wrong), and if they do, they won't run. Drivers have to be ported over.

There's no answer in that post (I don't speak spanish but I do recognize nuances of language), it's all question.

I ran this through a translator:

"Holas, I installed Slackware the other days in my compu desktop, and later I compiled kernel 2.6.1. The problem came when I tried to form scanner, that is a Microtek Scanmaker V300. With kernels 2,4 it was necessary to patchear for being able to compile the modules ppscsi and onscsi. Despues you loaded those modules and scanner walked. But it seems that with kernels 2.6.1 they are not patches, and above ppSCSI does not have already mantenedor... Somebody made walk some of these scanners with 2.6.x?"

Thanks Grogan. That was my suspicion. Guess I'm gonna have to learn how to rewrite the patch. (or buy a new scanner).

Or just keep a 2.4 kernel around for when you need to use your scanner. (how often do you use it in Linux anyway?)

Where's the challenge in that? :) But you are absolutely right. I very seldom use it these days.

Thanks for the link Walden.
