I built my own computer and have this sound driver. Sound worked fine originally, but now in the front sound port (green hole) has become loose so only one speaker produces sound since I can't get a solid connection. Now if I plug the sound into the back of the computer in the green hole I get no sound whatsoever. If I plug into any other plug except the microphone the sound works on my speakers for Windows Media Player, instant messengers, select websites. However certain websites do not play any sound (except if I put my head right up to the speaker I can hear the sound very quietly in the background). I have reinstalled the drivers to no avail. The sound works fine in the front except that it is loose, why should it not work at all in the back, and it works in the incorrect plugs (again only select things)? Any help would be much appreciated, thank you :)

Hi MW
Now some of the newer AC97 onboard audio have auto sensing and configuring jacks, now i am thinking that if you have this version and your front jack has loose wires then it could cause the back jacks to work erratically. I would unplug the front jacks completely and then try the rear plugs and see if everything works as it should.
What motherboard do you have ?

Hey man -
I built this computer awhile back and I forget what the motherboard is, but I am running an AMD processor. The front jack wires I think are fine, but the actual port is not stable and so when you put in the jack it wiggles around unable to get a full connection for sound. Of course placing it in the back gets zero sound from the normal jack. However selective sounds come from the other jacks. But I will try to unhook the front jacks and see what happens, thanks :) Let me know if you have any other ideas.

find your manual, alot of mobo;s that have the front jack option require jumpers on that header if the front jack asm is not used! depends on the age if it can autosense.

Yep, Tom speak the truth - I made this mistake a while ago with an EQS mobo - I had the jumpers set for the front jacks, and when I re-installed the mobo later in another case without front sockets I couldn't work out why the rear sound sockets weren't working - I then read the manual and hey presto, moved the mobo sound header jumpers over and it worked fine :)
