UD Monitor (http://www.udmon.org.ru/) is used to cache multiple protein results at a time and batch send the results to the server. Ideal for Dial-up users!
UD Dialup (http://www.geocities.com/chronosbear/uddialup.html) is used to automatically connect to the UD Server to send results or get new work when needed. Ideal of Dial-up users!

i actually found UD monitor a pain in the arse to use, very eratic behaviour. Haven't tried UD dialer but i'm not going to need to worry about that now since i (will have once the sodding teches get of their arses and plug in the cable at the switch) have a 10mbps connection to the net :)

Just downloaded UD monitor for my laptop. Is there any way to kill the program asking for a password when you download a work unit? I want to install it elsewhere :D but I don't want that popping up.

Thats odd 026T, I have the Monitor loaded and it has never asked for a password.. I'm running version 1.7.5c, what are you running?
I'm gonna take a look now to see if I can find an answer for you.

Slayer,
I'm running 1.75C also. I right clicked the cache section and added 4. Every time it went to retrieve the WU, it asked for my password.
I have another question. Am I supposed to put this thing in the startup folder since I noticed that it didn't automatically load when restarting windows?
Thanx again.

You need to go into UD Monitor's setup/option and check the start UD on startup, than exit UD on shutdown. don't check hard shut off... and yes, you have to put UD Monitor in Startup folder so it triggers UD to turn on when system starts. So if you set UD Monitor's option's open UD on startup, than you don't have to put UD in the startup folder... SOB, need to go home and do this with UD in front of me. :hhead:

AS,
I saw that option but found it strange since UD automatically places itself in startup. So with UDmon, you're telling me I need to remove UD from startup and replace it with UDmon and check the start UD box? If you say so :D.

Found it. Do the following, then put UD Monitor in Startup folder, you won't need UD Agent in there anymore.

This happened to JD and I, late last year - JD wasn't even running UM either, each time a WU was returned rather than using the existing device, it wanted to create a new device, thus asking for password.
I had the problem you are currently having, whereby, it kept wanting to make a new device rather than populating the existing cache.
In the end I deleted all the caches (after I returned the results ;) ) and then deleted the UM folder and re-installed and created new caches again - touch wood, it's been OK since

Hey guys…
Taking a small liberty posting here in this 'Sticky' thread, hope no one minds...I know a lot of you have seen me post this tip before, but with this new UD downtime, here it is one more time!!!
No matter what your connection speed, be it sloooow dialup like mine, or a supper fast cable or DSL line… YOU NEED UD MONITOR!!! :D
And, yes I did say "You need UD-Monitor, even with broadband" There are specific settings for dialup and for broadband.
Check out the UD Monitor article that I posted on the CorrOfcFla Tips & FAQ Page (www.corrofcfla.com/Tips%20&%20FAQ.htm) You will find a detailed how-to that was put together with lots of help from ‘Bob G’ of PC911 and some great links by Dubber.
It takes a little work, but the how-to will walk you through it…you can do this…and you NEED THIS!!! :D
Edit: 10-21-2002... Updating links to the new COF tips page.
Ps: This subject is coming up in other threads, so you may see this reply more than once. ;)
