More troubles....
I'm not sure when this happened but it may have been after I did all the things the other day. I actually just noticed it earlier today. They had turned the electric off here today and when I rebooted the computer I got a notice saying something to the effect of "Norton didn't load." The Norton icon in the task bar near the clock has a red circle with a line through it. When I right click to "Enable File System Realtime Protection" I get a pop up window with the following message: Norton Antivirus Realtime Protection failed to load. In that window my only option is to click "ok" or click the red X to exit out of the window. That's it! It's a bit strange as it appears to have loaded because I can open up Norton and even get the live updates, just the protection part isn't working, I assume.
I did do a search on Google and found some things but not really sure just what. Nothing I found that seems to fix it, I don't think. I did find this:
http://searchg.symantec.com/search?q=Norton+Antivirus+Realtime+Protectio
n+failed+to+load.&site=symc_en_US_sup&entqr=0&hitsceil=100&sort=date%3AD%3AL%3Ad1&output=xml_no_dtd&client=symc_en_US&charset=utf-8&ud=1&context=gbh&y=5&oe=UTF-8&ie=UTF-8&proxystylesheet=symc_en_US&x=7
I also found this:
http://entkb.symantec.com/security/output/n2003032808332248.html
Well when I got to that link above and clicked on "Updating the Symevent files", I'm wondering if I should really do that?
Is there something else that maybe you know that would be an easier fix?
Btw, this is Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition Full Version 7.6 that I'm using.
Thanks for any help you can offer. :)

Get rid of it... it's garbage. Uninstall it while you still can. Look at how much good it did you recently and now... surprise! Norton is broken. Still going to stubbornly cling to it?
Get this (free Antivir)
http://www.free-av.com
or Get this (inexpensive, effective and efficient Nod32)
http://www.eset.com/
That is all the advice I will give you about Norton Anything(tm)
Moreover, that's an outdated version of a product that's not even legit.

I got rid of Nortons stuff a while back.... Just doesn't seem to catch a lot of the sneaky items out there... Also after time it tends to bloat up and slow the system.
Been running McAfee's software for a while and don't seem to have the problems I was having with Symantec. Also helps that it's included with my Inet service. So the price is right.
I like getting stuff that works for free. LoL

NOrton SUcketh - Trend Micro is a good solution for the general class of users.. and you can get a 3-pack CHEAP Here (http://www.computersworth.com/) for about 17 bucks!
This is what I had VaMohawk use. His problems with this part of his computer went away.

Like Grogan and Bits said, Norton sucks big time!
Go get what Grogan suggested or go to www.grisoft.com and DL AVG.

Alright, alright, I'll get rid of it! :) It won't be easy to do as I have been using that since day one of using the computer. The ex first installed Norton and I just never wanted to switch, but yes, I will.
The only reason I have hung onto it Grogan it seems to have done me fairly good over the years honestly for as long as I have had it, really. I haven't had that many problems to speak of from what I can remember. However saying that, yes, I know about the problems I just had and there is no sense in asking for help and advice and not taking it. ;)
And btw, how do you know that it's not legit? *grins* Is there anything you don't know Grogan? :Tong: I don't mind spending the money on any good AV software, I just happen to fall into that "not legit" Norton! :D

Mornin' Bits, SpaceCat, and Z, wow Zemuss  Good to see you! :)
Thanks for the advice, and sounds like I guess I better be listening to all you boys.
Can I just go into Add/Remove and get rid of it? Seems like I was reading somewhere that it wasn't easy getting rid of every little thing to do with Norton but I may be wrong on that, just seems I remember something about it, not sure what now. It's morning!
Hope you all have a super day. :)

As far as I know, Add/Remove Programs (or maybe there's a shortcut to the uninstall in the start menu group for it) is your only option for uninstalling this. The Norton Removal Tool is not for the corporate versions.
If that doesn't work (it should, don't panic), the only other way I know of is manually

How bout this link, Bits. http://www.computersworth.com/category.cfm?cat=125&catname=Trend
The one you still have posted is all to Norton Antivirus software.
Not sure what you mean by a three pack though, unless I'm not seeing it as I can't even find a three pack.

Make sure you get that Norton crap off, before installing any other antivirus software. There may be stuff like Live Update still in Add/Remove Programs to uninstall separately as well. You can download Antivir ahead of time though, of course.
Antivir is pretty good software. The only drawback is that the servers are slow to respond sometimes (particularly after a major program upgrade/update is available) and sometimes you may just have to give up and cancel and try later or the next day.
It has very good trojan and other malware detection, especially if you go to Configuration, check the Expert box and enable the additional threat detections.
Go with the defaults during the install.
Get it up to date.
I'll help you with the configuration as well, but go ahead and proceed to that point in the mean time. I can't for the life of me remember how to describe it in words, but I have it installed in a virtual machine somewhere and I'll go look.

Grogan ok dear, I will do as you have instructed. :) I think I will wait until tomorrow though when I can think things through a little easier. I'm beat tonight, late night last night and early morning today.
I appreciate you helping me out. :)

This is what I'm talking about here:
http://www.bitbenderforums.com/~grogan/temp/antivirconfig.jpg
You click that link that says Configuration on the main program window. You then check that box at the left that says Expert mode. Then expand the tree beside General and click on Extended Threat Categories. I would enable them all.

Thanks Grogan for such great details. ;) I like pictures! :D
I'll be working on that a bit later tonight.
