IE caches temp internet files in the temp internet folder.
Where does firefox cache them at? :dunno:

I dunno either.. :headwipe:

I just go in and tell it to Clear Private Data from time to time.

Cleaning is no problem, but I want to pull out a flv. file from "you tube".

So search for *.flv

Firefox caches files in databases which you will find in your profile directory. It's much more efficient to do it this way than the way IE does it (littered directory with individual files, unreliably tracked by index.dat files)

Somewhere like:

documents and settings\you\application data\mozilla\firefox\randomshit.default\Cache

No, you aren't going to be able to manually pull a file out of them. If you want to save things from youtube you'll have to use other means.

There are add-ons like:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3590

(not tested by me)

Here is where it is, i think,:C:\Users\(YourName)\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\y7ajyqcd. default\Cache

THis is in vista.

Actually Troy, there is a way to see what's in the cache databases. I forgot about this.

Type

about:cache

Into your Firefox address bar, and under Disk Cache Devices, click List Cache Entries. You can use the Find function to find text (e.g. flv) on the page. It lists the cached files with the full URL to the file, but clicking (or better yet, right click and Save Link As) it should pull it from your cache because it's there.

This is actually better than trying to find something in Temporary Internet Files.

Using Gro's search method, from what I can tell the .flv file isnt there.
I can find the link that goes to the youtube page but it starts to download again.

Anyways I did download again using a program called save2pc light.
I Just need to remember to use it when using youtube so I don't need to download twice.

Thanks Patty, this one works very well, and even works on my pure 64 bit Linux system because it just uses the browser's scripting interfaces (.js, .xpt), rather than some external library for a plugin. It'll be unlikely to ever cause a problem and should remain compatible across (at least minor) firefox upgrades where they wouldn't change the download interfaces.

The end result for me is that I can now watch youtube videos without having the flash player. I can just download flv, and view with mplayer.
