    Love My new UPS

Just thought I'd show you a pic of my new Upsonic UPS I got when I was in Sydney.Great little machine, weights a ton, great software tha monitors it through a com port,it will shut the PC down after I power outage in a time that you give it.How long it can power my PC after an outage,I dont know, but I think it would at least go for 30 mins, maybe a bit more??It will even send an email or page you if there is an outage or a failure of the unit.Plus of course it protects from the usual lightning and power spikes.

Nice thing mate. I have a Powermax one that is rated at around 30 minutes of uptime. Mine is real heavy too and sits on the floor near my sub.

It can be a life saver if you have a power spike.

are you protecting more than one computer with that setup? I need to get one and have been putting off, but I need to protect a few of them.

    cool

Good idea to get one of those Skamp, I had a lightning strike come down the modem phone line a whiles back on one of my rigs, on a Slot A board, took out the PCI bus. That wasn't much fun, I'd only been running it for two days

The weight of the unit is probably atributable to the heavy sealed Battery Units and the Mains Transformer for the steady trickle charge to the batteries.

    A good investment!

Nice ups skamp, it must be a bit of a relief when you got one of those protecting all that expensive gear.

All I have is surge protectors, and from what I here they are rather useless against certain power problems. In my area we get lots of electrical storms, so I am definitly interested in a UPS. But I have the same question as cat, do you need to get one for each system? Or do you have any links that I could read? Thanks

This unit only has a com port for one PC,so I guess it can only shut down 1 PC when the power turns off.

Hey Kewl Skamp! I thoroughly recommend a UPS to anybody...Power Companies pump out trash voltage conditions to our poor rigs and as much money as I invested in my setup, you damn right I got a UPS protecting it and conditiong my power. I got me this one for under $100 way back when..IA Deal of course :

    http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...pUsage%2Fct_Id>#

It rocks and the software kicks the crap out of APC's version. It uses BullDog Sentry...

Cropse...Dra...if i understand it, you can plug how many systems you want because it's not what is on the protection end....the UPS is rated at a VA rating + others on the front end. So it will protect up to that amount...now in terms of battery life when power is out, I would imagine multi-systems will suck its juice much faster. BTW...NEVER NEVER put your printer on the battery backup outlets.

Wow, what a unit. Here in Tx lightning is nasty and we here have a group of 3 computers. We definitely need something substantial. We've tried networking, but so far they just manage to forget about one another...
How can it really stop lightning's dirty work????? emms
