It seems like AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (1.66Ghz) will be announced on Jan 15th according to some shops in Akiba Japan while Intel plans to introduce their Pentium 4 "Northwood" 2Ghz and 2.2Ghz on Jan 7th. AMD revenues have been somewhat affected by the falling product ASP (average sales price). Although the price decline has gradually eased with the launch of the new Athlon XP, it may not last for long, especially as Intel will soon shift production to the 0.13-micron process and price-cutting still remains one of the primary marketing strategies. In comparision, AMD Athlon XP 2000+ retail price will be around $270 while Intel P4 2Ghz official price will be at $342 and 2.2Ghz at $562.
Athlon XP2000+ (1.67Ghz) has been spotted selling in Akiba Japan already. One interesting point is the the batch code is different; this time it is AGOGA so the overclockability might be better perhaps. Picture is curtesy of vr-zone
