licky Asking for trouble.... Why AMD? Why not Intel?

I'm probably asking a dumb question but....

Whenever I talk about a new PC Slayer says "Get an AMD mate".

Its my policy to stick with Intel at work and I have so far followed suit at home but you guys are going to persuade me otherwise aren't you

    So... why AMD?

Basically because the current performance of AMD chips (not e the use of the word current) give much more bang for buck than intel chips. For the smae price you can get more power out of an AND chip than you can an Intel chip. Yes the P4 runs a 2Ghz but that hasn't translated into any real gains in preformance yet as SSE 2 enhanced applications and games are near nowhere to be found.

You work has the money to waste on buying intel for the sake of buying into an established name, you probably don't.

    So for games and stuff

I should go for AMD no question....

At work its different, we use MS products throughout (esp for DEV work) and previous experience shows that AMD is not 100% compliant. I know that this isn't AMD's fault, it's the WINTEL corp's but that doesn't help us any.

I can honestly say I have never had a complaint from any of my peeps about any systems running Intel chips.

Execpt for the rubbish we bought from www.sb-computers.co.uk a few years back.

    happy Intel & AMD

Intel - more money, less performance, it's that simple.

Only thing I'd say in Intel's favour is I believe they don't run so hot.

You could do no worse than cruise over to www.forumoc.com and check out a young guy named 'ihateintel' there. About 80% of his posts are attacks on Intel

That's if you can access ForumOC atm, they seem to be having a few probs with the server

Building & selling machines as i do for my customers, i have totally moved over to AMD. The customers love the performance, and i can actually make a few sheckles more out of AMD based systems.

The boards used for the customers machines tend to be ECS SIS730 boards, and i haven't had a single one back so far.

At home, everything here is AMD Athlon, or Duron, except for my celeron-500 laptop & a pentium pro box which i was given free by someone - after xmas, it's getting flogged off to a customer as a linux server for their small business, and the proceeds are going to.... guess what.... another duron

Here's what i've got so far at home:

    1.4 Athon (@1.6) on KG-7-Raid (My Workstation)
1.0 Athlon (@1.2) on KT-7-Raid (Linux SME Server)
    800 Duron (@1gig) on KT-7A-Raid (Wife's Workstation)
266 K6-2 (@300) on MSI board (Proxy Box)
500 Celeron Notebook (due to be replaced with athlon vers)
200 Pentium-Pro (due to be replaced with 1gig duron)

    I'll stop talking now

AMD here as well, my "customers" give me the money and I build them a system, the only time I see them ... is when they need a new system.
