Recruitment Drive - Your team needs your ideas.

The guy that runs this team offers free access to his FTP site in order to recruit members. It hasn't been hugely successful but he has managed to gather a small band of loyal followers including one big hitter. I'm not suggesting that any of us host an FTP site just to recruit but I do think that in order to get into the top 50 teams we need a cunning plan.

I was sold the idea of joining team PC by Slayer who is currently out selling snow to the Eskimos. It was his persuasion that brought me in. The 'team PC giveaway competition' was nothing short of brilliant in its idea and it lacked only one thing. Publicity.

I'm sure that we could have 'poached' members from other teams if we had widely publicised the competition outside the team and BBF.

So, on behalf of the team I am interested in ideas for recruiting more members from anywhere to help team PC to be right up there doing the biz. I personally raise a lot of money for charity every month and I would be willing to donate a prize for another round of giveaways. Who else is up for another 'giveaway' run?

Please let me have your thoughts.

    JD

PS - Please can we keep this on topic

well spoken and agreed on all fronts. As far as another contest, I think that we should wait until the current one is over then plan another one that we can pimp all over. I know that master was pimpin all over, but it looks like we need to pimp all over again. I was thinking of mabey a mobo/cpu prize for this one. I want more people to join and the easiest way is to flash something "shiny" in front of there face.

I will think some more on this and will let you know.

Good topic JD. Another attempt to recruit members was tried by posting at the UD forums in the Recruitment forums. I posted there twice but only got back one response....they liked the team name Don't recall anyone on our team joining up as a result of the pimping though

As you can see, everyone on our team has joined through word of mouth or through the BBF membership. Though our membership is small compared to others, its nice to see very few retirees from the team. The ones that you do see are primarily a result of a situation that got out of hand previously at another forum. When we had come up with the idea for a prolonged contest giveaway, we toiled long and hard about how to structure the contest so that we wouldn't see people merely join the team to win prizes and then leave. So we tried to use the rules scheme you see now...accumulated point totals with weekly prizes and grand prizes at the end of the contest life. It seems to have worked out so far.

I'm all for another giveaway! Two things we might have to consider:

    1) How much longer is the Cancer Project going to be? (impacts how we organize the contest length)
    2) How to structure the contest so we can retain new members? (it'll be great to break the Top 50 but it would suck if we couldn't remain up there)

Also, we did have plans for pimping the Team on the Front Page of this Site when that occurs. That should also help membership.

Good idea, we could use more members if we intend to get into the top 50.

But there is another thing that all current member should be remided of. We can increase results returned not only by recruiting more 'new' members, but alos by recruiting more PCs. Install the agent on your freinds, family, co-workers machines. They may only return one result a week from only being on occasianally but everything counts in the end. I know i could get more machines running UD if i really tried. So should we all.

Furton + JD: hows this for an idea why not run a giveaway and publicise it on www.tgnetwk.com that way it'll drum up buisness for your site Furton and also let Team PC reach a wider audience. Besides some of those hardcore gamers have kicking systems

Great Idea Kara...I'm in. We need to compile a list of prizes. Seeing how the site is UK based, I would assume most hits would come from UK members. How do we address shipping for US donations or prize winners?

I dont know whether the site is just for UK people... you'd have to ask Furton. Assuming he agrees to host it for us anyway..

PS: IA why do you always call me Kara ? has second K offended you or something ?

    Don't forget...

Irrespective of where the site is the competition, to be fair, must include our existing members. Newbies (yes I know I'm not that much of a regular...) must be persuaded to stand the test of time and not just feck off once the comp is run. I also think we should change the format.

ie. Run it for a number of weeks then draw several prizes and repeat, not one prize per week.

    thoughts ppl?

PS - IA calls you Kara because in his mind its the feminine form of KaraK and he likes to imagine everyone as female.

changing the format to say a two week rotation would allow for the anomalies that crop up in unit sizes which could be a good thing

Longer periods between prize drawings sound good. Will keep more people running the project. Of course, the contest will include our current members and new ones who meet a certain amount of results returned for that prize drawing.

Furton, appreciate the offer! So what do we need to entice you with Drop me a PM when you can?

Hehe, I omit the K at the end cuz Im too lazy to type it. Heck Im just doing KK from now on

I'll take a look and see what prizes I can donate. Anyone else?

Mr. Fly Lice, even though I don't like the idea of a webcam, it'd be a treasure for those without DC (you'll need stadium flood lights for good pics though). I'll donate a Logitech USB WebCam Express and a six pack of chicken noodle for the prize. But if winner lives abroad, I'm not paying for shipping. Damn I sound cheap, but hey, shipping over seas ain't cheap, and our UK members know it.

    CC - Good call..

We could go for a couple of biggy prizes and run over many weeks. Shipping for 1 biggy in dollar value is not so bad compared to a dozen or so ickle prizes. In some cases shipping would be as much as the prize, poss more.

Well, I'm UK based, but the server is in Dallas and around 80% of the traffic is US based.

Okay, so from what I've read this is what will happen, correct me if I'm wrong.

    1. BB forums will donate all prizes for the competition.
    2. I will host the competition page e.t.c and announce all the rules and legal notices.

But I'm un-sure as to how someone will win the competiton and how can we make it fair e.t.c.

You can also talk to me about this on ICQ UIN 54522211

    What about...

    2 parallel competitions

1 by 3 (bronze, silver & gold) prizes for North Americas and 1 by 3 (bronze, silver & gold) prizes for UK & Eire?

Each entrant must join team and BB forum and register with BB. BB keeps list. All entrants agree to T&Cs (yet to be decided) & these published on BBF and also the game site.

1 Draw at end of xxx weeks for N.Americas and UK/Eire.

Qualifying entrants given number, random number program draws out winners. Winners published on forum.

    Thoughts?

Contest rules would be very similar to this below:

    http://www.bitbenderforums.com/annou...?s=&forumid=38

Only exception is the prizes aren't drawn weekly. Every team member must satisfy a set amount of results returned to qualify for the random drawing for that time period.

0-60 and myself have set up the stats to calculate the qualify results for each member. If you would like, we can continue to do this and execute the random drawing?

    Great discussion folks

    just a note...

Tis a strange thing, but it's actually a helluva lot cheaper to post stuff to the US from the UK than vice versa.

I recently received a double CD & CPU from NC, cost $18.00 to ship, that's about £12.00 (roughly). Would only have cost me about £2.50 at most to ship that stuff to the States. Odd.

One other thing. Do we include a guarantee winners will actually receive their prize and not just a promise?

licky Not sure i'm following all the shipping stuff very well!

Anyhow,i'd say name your prizes and who is going to supply them.

if stoner supplied an antec case:and it is won buy a lass in Erie:
stoner mails Martz the cash,he makes the purchase and mails it locally (unless shes a pretty lass, then he hand delivers the goods)

and just the opposite for prizes won here, mail cash to nearest MOD.
All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost ....

    Ok - my thoughts...

Like the idea of different continent competion - kinda makes it easier on the shipping aspect.

3 categories of prize good too. We need to agree some kind of structure to the prizes - for instance JD's CDRW is a Gold because it comes in say a value of £80-£120 for argument sake. The Silver would be £40- £80, say a stick of Crucial 256 DDR memory for instance and then the Bronze up to £40 for the UK/Eire competition - then the North American competition would have similar products per category (but they unlike us don't have to pay silly UK prices ) Also to avoid shipping problems/ aggravation, is some one from Florida wins Gold category in the North American competition but prefers the prize in the UK/Eire competition, then unless they do a deal with the UK/Eire prize winner, and the prizewinners pay shipping amongst themselves, they have to stick to the prizes in their own competition.

Talking bluntly - how often are we doing the competitions - we are talking about a fair amount of money here - I can donate a prize, but not every time. I think we need to be careful about how we do this, otherwise it's going to be like the friendly weekly poker games playing for a couple of quid for the fun of it to something which can start to cost a lot more, and lose fun. People may feel pressured into matching other high value donations, coz these aren't small donations, they are very generous high value donations, it's not the same kind of levelling donation as a tenner or twenty for a prize.

It's very easy to get carried away with charity, and good causes. A lot of us have already spent a lot of money on buying spare parts, to make up PC's just for running UD. That in itself is very commendable. I think the idea of big prizes is good - a must have motherboard prize every two three months etc would be FAB, but we musn't get caught up in the frenzy and forget our financial limits.

Will we have enough prizes to go for regular competions every 3-4 weeks or so?

The first competition and response etc will be the guide to how we go in the future. I think we are being very pro-active, in this, lets see how the first one goes and then plan from there. I tcould be that as the user base grows then some of the new users could throw into the prize donation pot

I've changed my mind, gonna visit BestBuy tomorrow and look for a Bronze prize, something under $10 and is on sale. So please excuse the cut up box when you receive the prize.

Ok, seriously, I'll check stuff out and see what I can find. The WebCam thing's useless unless you want a VERY, and I do mean very cheap DC substitute.

Stoner: dont sell yerself short. the webcam is ok. I dont have one. (hint, hint)

I would advise to spread out the big ticket items more and increase the number of lower priced stuff. Second hand is ok, but then you have to pay for shipping. New stuff you can just wire the cash, its cheaper.
How about PayPal or other online gift certificates?
This is just idle cpu clocks after all, not donating a kidney
