I made up my mind - Nforce it is!

Too many chipsets to choose from folks...well, I finally made up my mind

    Nforce 415-D

I'm trying to avoid Via for my next upgrade because I am sick of patches, drivers, USB conflicts, etc.

ALi Magik - Looks promising on the IWILL XP333 but I think driver support will remain suspect from ALi.

    SiS - Ditto

So that leaves me with Nforce. Now that Nvidia is releasing the top model without the Integrated Graphics, IA is in. Nvidia has good history with driver updates on their graphics cards and I think they will carry the same tradition with the chipset. They just released an update to the chipset driver using a unified install architecture

Really, I chose this one just to be different for you all

The only two boards I know that have been announced are by Asus and Leadtek. If the Asus board layout is the same as the A7NE, I'm waiting for another one. They put the ATX connector near the IDE connectors, almost ensuring the ATX cable will block airflow especially for my case design. Also, the Asus forces you to set Vcore and Vio through jumpers

Hopefully other manufacturers will start announcing new boards soon. The chipset should be pin compatible with the Nforce 420.

Im sort of hoping IWILL will come out with one but I haven't heard anything yet. I've yet to see any Nforce board with RAID

0-60 is all about Nforce from day one

really???!!! I know you had to think this one out, but I won't be getting one soon :rollout: got other things to do. I know you don't like Via, but it seems that once they are running good, you don't have to worry about them. If I was in the market though, I would've gone Iwill just because I am a slave to Iwill and would name my first child after them.

And, isn't sanity really just a one-trick pony anyway? I mean all you get is one trick, rational thinking, but when you're good and crazy, oooh, oooh, oooh, the sky is the limit.

In the reviews I've seen the nForce looks great beating out dual Pentiums in most areas. I'm beginning to feel like a slug with my Abit board.
The only thing better than playing the game, is talking about it.

hey lurch I have a kt7a raid also. There have been a lot of reports of the XP working fine on 1.0 to 1.2. Keep an eye out, there is hope.

It seems the problem with older boards and XPs just causes an intermittent POST. Wont do any damage, just unreliable boots. A hard reset will usually boot them ok. Note this is just what I have read on usenet and other message boards.
