Anyone running Linux under VMware ?

I'm trying to run a copy of Red Hat 7.2 under WinXP using VMWare Worstation3 and I get the following error when I try a "startx" :

    execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno2)
    giving up
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.

I dont know sh*t about linux so I dont know wether this is down to Linux or down to VMWare.. help !!

I've run Linux under VMWare but I used Mandrake 8.1 which is a bit easier to install. Did you install Red Hat using the custom or expert option or did you let it default to it's own standard setup (if indeed there is that option with Red Hat).

I still know very little about Linux myself but I have installed a few different versions.

Best to let the OS set up as default. And sometimes an install can go awry anyway.

Also, you have to activate Linux within VMWare with some information, my memory fails me now.

The man to speak to about this is Tim, he's a big fan of VMWare and showed me how to do it, but as I said, I seem to have forgotten.

Try erasing your install, try install again, and study each option during install very carefully.
