Again, Points vs. Results . . . – 4081 days old

Hear ye, merry gentlemen – someone well versed in the intricacies of optimization and edification, please enlighten me. I have attached below a snapshot of my rankings – as you can see, I am about to kick Skamp and Piubs ass.

And yet, I see that though the points correlate quite closely, the results returned are skewed in his favor? How is this so? Please note also rowleyd3 – he just registered this month (sh*t, 4 days ago!) and yet he kicks ass on points with pitiful results. Again, how is this so. Answer with a view to how I should optimize my systems to romp all over his sorry ass. Thanks!

First of all calm the fsck down. Now, tell me how many systems you have running UD? Quick answer to rowley3d's results is because he has many systems running UD, thus the hight point counts. Next, Skamp & Pubs' (hehe) results. Now as you know, TeamPC don't do that points shit. We count what matters, and that's results. Screw the points. And finally. PM me your email address and I'll give you a program that lets you change the format of bmp to jpg or gif with ease. Screw paint if you ain't using WinXP. Feel better now?

Thanks one and all - I have calmed down - went downstairs and stared at a boiler for awhile . . . . Yeah Stoner, I feel better now. - I am running 2 systems - got confused cause IA posted our team ranking by points (in the post about overtaking prof. Challis' team), makes more sense that results count.

Yo Case...Paint doesn't save other formats besides BMP? Weird...my paint allows TIFF, JPG, GIF to name a few. Using 2K.

Here's the skinny with points. Points are calculated based on your time taken to crunch a protien and the power of your CPU/Memory/Storage/Network. See those scores in Device Information on the Home Panel when you double click on the Blue Pill? They factor into how much points you get for each result. It was a honest idea by UD to reward those who have less powerful machines for giving the same amount of effort. SADLY, their execution is flawed. You can artificially inflate points by many methods - increase HD Space, prolong the time it takes to crunch a protein by not giving UD 100% Cycles, etc. In the end, the points system is a good idea poorly executed. Check out Media Command's scores. He has returned the most results of anybody here, and the most overall CPU time yet he has less points then me!!! That should convince you enough the points system isn't working how they wanted.

Results are pretty clear...you either return one or your don't. Nothing you can really "inflate" about that statistic. The more time you donate to UD, the more results you will get.

As for why rowleyd3 probably has low points, is a combination of him having faster rigs (which means he returns more results at leas points/result) and not optimizing the tricks I mentioned above.

Re showing team ranking by points on the Prof Challis Thread...if you take a closer look, that is indeed the OVERALL results ranking I show bro, not points
