test on the top 10 digital camera's

found here is a test on the top 10 camera's. 3 are over 5 mega pixels and it's for me informative. To be honest I want a camera but I feel kinda left out in the cold for I have one never owned one and 2. they seem to be advancing so fast I dont know if I could throw the money down, next week the price drops (much like computers)

I see that the G2 I have is #3 on the list of camera's above $500. But then they give this in the description: "Full-featured camera takes the best photos of the bunch and has a long battery life." Well, I'll settle for the best photos, though the Casio does look nice and much cheaper. Have to check out what Phil Askey says about it.
The only thing better than playing the game, is talking about it.

FBT: Man, I was just thinking about the same thing. But damn, just read this new Canon SLR EOS D60 by Phil. 6.3MP!

    Phil says:

    1) Casio QV-4000: Recommended. Price = $609
    - Hmm... uses 4 AA. I kinda like that. Don't have to shell out for Li-Ion battery like Canon. Too bad it's entirely made of plastic. Yuck.

    2) Nikon Coolpix 995: Highly Recommended. Price = $439
    - I don't know, but this twisting body thing by Nikon's just not my bag. Half metal, half plastic body. Uses Li-Ion battery. One of the best Macro in DigiCam.

    3) Canon G2: Highly Recommended. Price = $723
    - I love Canon, period. Flip out LCD screen. Li-Ion battery. Body's metal, back panel's high quality plastic. Has hot-shoe for flash unit.

My colleague at work has that Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F707 and that thing is sweet. Comes with a Karl Ziess (sp?) lens.

First of all, are you willing to spend that much moeny for a camera Katz, or are you looking for 2-3MP instead? If you gonna spend that much dough, you gotta really be into amateur photgraphy. I find that 2.1MP is great for all purpose stuff and doesnt' break the bank.

Nice link cats - My wife and I are in the market for a 4.1 MP camera - we're leaning towards the Nikon Coolpix 995, but need to do more research. Now that the 5 MP cameras are out in force, the prices are starting to be affordable for a good (4.1 MP) camera.
It is harder and harder to make a case to a weary and dismayed population that the Western way of life as managed by the Anglosphere ought to be spread around the world at the point of a gun.

I have been actively persuing this hobby of photography for the last 30 years and was at one time member of the Photographic Society for a decade. I also had my work displayed at galleries.

"What kind of camera should I get if I want a decent picture, nice zoom with option of wide angle capability and water proof as well and a lots of space to accomodate multiple mega pixel images without having to download frequently?"

This is a question I have been asked many a times. Jokes aside, my answer is simply, THE EXPENSIVE KIND. Yes that is true, I concluded that from the needs specified in the question.

Let's be realistic. If you are thinking of spending between $500-750 you cannot get all the features. COMPROMISE is the keyword word here. You must come up with your priorities, like the most important aspect that you would like the camera to excel in. Good quality pictures can mean, a high quality lens, good metering,
precise auto/program functions with manual override. Weather proofing means good sealing, robust body. More memory certainly means large capacity for high quality pictures. All these things cost loads money. As for myself, I use Nikon gear exclusively and would not even consider any other brand, all my lenses are also prime Nikons. But this is my preference and I certainly am not suggesting in any way that you ought to get Nikon only. My 12 year old son is waiting for me to get him a Nikon Digital Camera! I almost ended up buying him a Coolpix last year but decided it would be too expensive for a 12 year old. Nonetheless, It will be a Nikon for him and both of us would be using it.

I do not wish to dissapoint you in anyway, but, i would urge you to make up your mind as to your requirements. It would be ideal if you could first come up with a budget and then look for the camera which falls in that bracket.

I have read many a reviews on various websites and I found that the website where I write my music reviews has a guy by the name of Howard Creech who really knows how to write reviews on cameras, he happens to be a professional yet he has the enthusiasm of a ten year old kid when it comes to photography. He not only reviews THE EXPENSIVE KIND but also ACQUIRABLE KIND

Here you will find reviews of Howard Creech I am sure you will find something of interest to you and may just find a review of the camera which is just about right for your budget.

I suggest you also check out Digital Photography Review which will give you all the information about current prices and availability of various brands out there.

I sincerely hope my post will be of help to you in making the decision. You can always come back here, if you need assistance.

Maybe its high time I did some research and got one for the two of us.

Yea, I like the Sony's for the Zeiss lenses, just can't handle the proprietary memory sticks, very expensive. The two things I must have are a hot shoe (no in camera flash is all that) and the ability to mount filters. Do like the flip out LCD screen though, saves lying on my stomach, when I have the camera low on a tripod. The Casio does look good for the price, just some question of the noise algorythm. And no hot shoe. They are all droping in price now, go to some of the price sites. Of course, there is NO digital camera that compares to a good 35mm with Kodachrome 25 or Ilford Pro (for B&W), and forget about with competing with large format. Digital cameras exibit all of the same problems I hear in digital audio, unnatural noise, aliasing, dynamic range, lossy compression, I hear music in a studio and then on a CD and say 'what happened?'. The same is true for me with pictures, I see the real thing, then it doesn't translate (90% it's my technique, but some things are the media and I know which is which).

Hey FBT the memory sticks actually have come down in price quite a bit. Apparently, Sony realizes people ain't gonna buy their cameras if the sticks are twice as expensive as Smart Media and Compact Flash.
