    Let's share a favorite freeware program !

I think most of us know, finding the right piece of software, and it's purpose, can be a real nightmare even for veteran computer user's.Most of us have had to experiment with a lot of useless programs,to find what was the best, and most useful.

I feel we can help all our member's to share one piece of freeware, explain what it does, and provide a link to download.I'll start by posting the older version of EndItAll.We all know when we defrag,or install new programs etc.any running programs can cause problems. This program shuts down all running programs safely, with just one click. It leaves Explorer and Systray protected, and shuts down all the other's.I have used the version I'm posting for over 2 yrs,and it does a great job.

Maybe by sharing, we can eliminate having to hunt for programs that often times turn out to be of little if any value. Thanks for those who are willing to share There was a later version of this program, that was not as good as the first. This is the original .

Well, it's not freeware but Textpad makes a great code editor for those who don't have large development tools such as VS or Borland. Your meant to register it, but you don't have to. Also great for doing HTML.

    www.textpad.com

Another one i like and is only applicable to those with multi monitor set ups (which should be everyone in my opinion) is Ultramon. It's a monitor managment tool which has a host of usefull fueatures and is a must for anyone with more than one monitor attached to their PC

And the last one, which again isn't freeware and you all know about anyway is Opera 6. See my sig for the best browser in the world, ever.

Generally I like http://www.tucows.com/ as they have most operating systems covered. The programs I like under windows (2k) are WS_FTP and DAP.
The only thing better than playing the game, is talking about it.

    WinSplit -

"Winsplit is a lite-weight file splitting GUI application for Win9x/NT platforms. It allows three ways to split files size-based, pieces-based and keyword based. Best of all Winsplit is just 40 Kbs in size and does not need any additional runtime dlls. Winsplit also features bat-file generation to re-join the split files. New to version 1.0.8: WinSplit features a file Joining functionality in additon to batch file generation. User friendliness has been improved with tooltips help."

May I draw all you folks' attention to this thread: Software Downloads

All the stuff that's been listed in this thread that's free, I shall add.

And then one day I'll get around to the task I've been entrusted with and transfer everything to the front page

    Happy downloading!

Some great downloads there all ,I saw that thread floppy, but it's overwhelming to some. There are so many downloads that do similar tasks,it's hard for most anyone to select without someone actually saying they are using it.Maybe both threads can be very valuable for everyone .Thanks

    Doh Tuffie:

No probs, of course both threads can be useful. I shall check out stuff from this thread and those I think good, I'll transfer them to the downloads thread and ultimately to the Front Page links.

I was just pointing out the download thread's existence in case anybody had overlooked it

Off the top of my head, I can personally vouch for dbPoweramp, a most excellent freebie that I've been using for over a year now.

    Talking

Some usefull places I know :

http://www.sysinternals.com has got some very powerfull and usefull (and free) programs.

http://www.memtest86.com is the home site for an excellent memory tester. This does LOTS of exhaustive tests to ensure all areas of memory are in perfect working order. The program is supplied as a floppy image file. Simply create a floppy from the image and boot on the floppy disk.

I can also vouch for the superb Textpad. I registered my version years back, it's simply one of the best text editors around!

    [edit]
Lets not forget the excellent free anti-virus software AVG 6. You can get this from http://www.grisoft.com
