For you Monitor guru's which I am NOT.
I have a ViewSonic A95f 19" model which is a year old, lately on boot up the lower right hand edge of the screen has some green tinge. It fades away in a few seconds after windows comes up but I'm wondering do I have something to be concerned about?? Or does this have something to do with the vid card (radeon ve)?
Possibly got a gun that's starting to waver...
Or maybe magnetic interfearance.. Any unshielded speakers near your monitor or anything else with a magnet? Those will REALLY fuck up a good monitor.

I do have a monitor sitting right beside it that has internal speakers but those are shielded. I'm gonna move it to test it tho, thanks JB.
Would agree with JB about one of the guns starting to go, which, incidentally, means the whole tube
Isolating the Monitor, degaussing and then switching it on and off would confirm the fault's with the monitor if it's still happening.
OK, I did what ya said flops, rebooted a couple times and so far no green. 1 year old and wouldn't ya know the warranty is up, Oh, hardware god, please, please I hope thats all it was!!

BTW, if it doesn't come back then I know it was the other monitor with the internal speakers, but those are supposed to be shielded, any ideas why it would cause problems for another monitor?
They might only be shielded in the direction of the monitor they are installed in?

That's true, they may not be shielded for external magnetic radiation. Also, I'm fairly sure the CRT of another monitor will give out a fair bit of EMF, which could affect the display of an adjacent monitor.
Dramen it's quite common on a multimonitor setup where the monitors are placed right next to each . I get it occaisionally on mine and and on the CRT MMS at work too. Just switch off restart or manually degauss - does the trick.

Yup, OK that makes sense. I was using the dual monitor feature of the radeon ve and hooked up my old acerview that has internal speakers..so I guess it doesn't shield outward as MD suggested.
Any suggestions of what material I could use to place between the monitors that would block magnetic radiation and EMF, so I can still use dual displays?
Best would be a sheet of lead. Really. But anything metallic, a sheet of tin or the like, should work.

Dramen glad it was the only other monitor causing your problems . I work on Viewstar monitors and they have a tendency to develop color problems, most times its just a simple transistor replacement but often it turns into capacitors burnt up and sometimes the board inside the monitor get fried as well.
Your lucky it was only that problem and not the ones I listed above.
Mumetal is the best shield but expensive in single pieces and hard to find. Has to be cut to order and no bending it as it looses it's properties. Most shielded speakers use this, but as with everything; if you buy quantities the stuff is cheap.
The only thing better than playing the game, is talking about it.

Damn, unbelievable that the warranty is just up, do they plan it that way.
Hard to say. Could go on for years, it may pack up tomorrow.
It may be worth opening it up and making sure all edge connectors are seated firmly and the CRT PCB assembly (it pushes on to the neck of the CRT) is firmly home.
Watch out you don't touch the tube though, the aquadac (black coating) there acts like a huge capacitor and could give you an unexpected wake-up call. Same goes for any big capacitors.

Maybe best I keep out of there and just hope, either that or do some reading about the stuff you mentioned first, but then again maybe I need a good "wake up call"...
Dramen this monitor may work for years like that then again it may die tommorrow(HOPE NOT!) WHat you could do is take it to a electronics repair shop you trust what it sounds like is your transistors for the colors are bad they arent a very epensive item to buy only a few dollars. If you decide to open this thing up and do it yourself be careful these things can juice you up bigtime!!Originally posted by Dramen

Thanks James The first link you left, brought me to foam insulation and weather stripping! lol Maybe I should use that first for protection!!
Actually this green stuff comes and goes, so maybe its like flops said about loose edge connectors.
