    Still having LAN probs...

This was all working before, no idea what has changed.
All of a sudden one of my 98se machines would not connect to the network. Reinstalled nic drivers and all protocols. For some reason it wont work on irq 9 anymore, so it is on 10 now.
It works ok with raspppoe to connect to internet over shared adsl modem, but it wont connect to the local network. All protocols and settings are the same as the machine next to it and the drives are shared. Same workgroup, different computer name. IP is set to 192.168.0.11, other machines are .10 and .12. The other machines see it in the workgroup, but cannot open it or ping it.

I would think it was something wrong with the tcp protocol bound to the network adapter, but it all looks fine.

    Any ideas??

What's your ICS setup? 2 NIC, switch, or router. If it's the latter two, I would switch ports and see if it'll work. I guess is you got a dead switch/hub/router port. You got a spare switch/hub? Try that if port switching doesn't work.

All the hardware is fine, it does connect fine to the adsl modem which is shared by all computers through a switch.

Has anyone had this before, where a computer is seen on the microsoft network, but you cant open it? The only time I have had this is when the drives on it are not shared, but they are this time, with the little hand under them.

Haven't had this before, but have you checked the subnet mask? Very odd that you can't ping, what does tracert 192.168.0.11 give you? Also, try tracert from this computer to the others. Go to Network and Dialup Connections, and make sure that all the Properties are the same on all computers. Probably already tried all this, but just in case.

Try unsharing all your shares on that computer, reboot and reshare.

That computer cannot ping any local IPs including the dsl modem interface. But it will connect to them using the internet IPs fine.
Rechecked the tcp->network adapter settings and its identical to the machine next to it.
Guess I will reinstall the networking components yet again. If that doesnt work, I offically give up. Chalk one more up to windows weirdness and move on. Not worth reinstalling windows and software.
Maybe linux.... I have been feeling a little bsh withdrawl lately

Decided to take another crack at it today and fixed it all up

Turns out there was something called "icsdclt" running in the task manager. I took it the "ics" meant it was part of a botched ICS installation. I disabled that in msconfig, reinstalled all networking components, reloaded raspppoe and VOILA, im back on adsl and lan. All computers showing up properly now

    Happy, happy HAPPY:mice:
