    RAID 0 Question

Just got my raid O installed tonight on winxp with two 20 gb drives . I was always under the impression if the drives are identical in size your raid drives would total the amount of both the drives

    Example 20gb X 2 should be 40

But in my setup its saying the drive is only a 20gb and not the 40 it should be,

Any idea what happened ? I used the drivers that were made for my controller card.

Did you stripe it? It sounds like you set up your array as a mirror (one drive gets all the data, and it's instantly backed up to the other drive). Check in the RAID array setup (should be when you boot up your computer and press ctrl + f, at least on my Promise card).

    I chose raid 0

Also the device manager recognizes it as a

wolf, seriously man, windows will not tell you the exact info. get into the promise controller card's bios upon bootup and check it again. I gotta agree w/ Jiz here, looks like you picked mirror RAID. looks like you'll need to set it up again.

BTW, you did set both drives at master and put them on their own channel right?

Aaaah, shit, I know why. Ok, try this. After you RAID the drives in the controller card BIOS, boot into DOS and format the pair of drives, now acting as one drive (C. After that, create partition w/ Fdisk. I like to do it as one to lessen the confusion, again, that's just me. Now when you install WinXP, let winxp convert the drive to NTFS. When WinXP's done installing, you should get one big chunk of C: as NTFS and 38.xxGB, or something close to it. That's how I set mine up.

Should have posted this yesterday but I feel asleep at the PC.

AmStoned you were a big help here and now my PC is running just great on the raid setup.

    Thanx again!
