    Question GeForce 4 MX440

Listen ... I just build the bloody things, I don't get much chance to test them ... however, Grogan set me thinking (shut-up at the back) ...

I, for one, have quite a trusting nature and as such download from Microsoft Update Site any drivers and critical updates. I just leave out the rubbish.

Never had any problem with them, no really. But, where can one get the 30.37's from? Well you get them from MS in the form of ... you guessed it, an update.

Well I've never had any problems with them and with XP it's so easy to "rollback drivers".

    Ok, with me so far?

Along comes cheap geF MX 440 vid cards ... WOW ... nice.

nVidia release the new 40's drivers, aimed at gF4's and XP ... well I tried 'em ... and ... well good job "driver rollback" works.

... Now the other day I got Nettie "Lord of the Ring" (she likes "adventures" ) except its taken her 3 days and she still cannot find the Inn? So I thought I would give her a hand and installed it on my machine ... every thing worked fine up to the point when the "game" loads ... now why did that happen ... try again.

Nope! …will not run on my system.

Still with me? What do you mean your off to the pub, I aint finished yet.

Ok I'll cut to the Ice ... I just found nVidia have a new (well it is to me) 40.72's driver ... ... hey, they work.

Now play amongst yourselves while I re-install LotR ... be back shortly with an update.

Oh, your welcome to make any comments while I'm gone ... my sanity is not in question, ok?

When I was using Nvidia cards I found it was a matter of trial and error which driver worked best with a particular setup and it wasn't always the newest driver available.

So I guess it's pot luck and patience that's required.

As for getting stuck on Lord of the Rings, I can sympathise there. I'm playing Dungeon Siege, I'm only on the second level and can't find my way out of the Dungeons/Catacombs. On searching out a walkthrough guide on some web site or other, it said something like 'This is a very linear level, just keep going and you'll find your way out easily'.

Well, I can't. Sometimes I feel really dumb

Might give it another go later on :joy:

Question Bad video drivers ... ??

Nope ... no joy. Still won't run.

But then I'm dead chuffed with the new drivers .... so far.

I know what you mean Flopp, I never got out of the Castle in Castle Wolfenstine. gave up.

Is that a rhetorical question? <-- this is a rhetorical question

    Please tell us what happens.
Does it just crash to the desktop or crash the whole system?
    Any error messages/reports?
    Any abnormal screen behaviour?
Do you have the correct version of DirectX installed?

    Cool

Actually Prod, I don't care ... but it just plonks me back to the desktop, no errors, no BSOD ... the "game" is not my cup of tea.

    Oh, what is DirectX.
