I installed a 115V-100 CFM, 3000 RPM, Axial fan ( INDUSTRIAL ) on the side of My tower, blowing directly at the CPU-NB.The tempature drop is impressive, to Me atleast.
Case temp.76 Deg.
CPU temp.125 Deg./51 C. full load running UD
CPU temp.113 Deg./45 C. with fan on + UD
CPU temp.102 Deg./39 C. with fan on/ UD sleeping 5 MIN.
Here is a direct link

This is the replacement fan, for the one I used- (discontinued)lower RPM-5 more CFM.
They will only sell to industrial accounts,I have one if Ya'll
feel the need.

PS: The power cord is not needed,I will be getting the filter kit!

I gotta similar set-up on my daughter's MSI K7T Turbo rig.
Done it about 5 months ago, was my own idea. I cut a hole in the case side and mounted an 80mm fan (not sure of the make, got it from the RS catalogue, they're an Electronic parts supplier). with a nice square black plastic grill to cover up my rather useless hole cutting effort
I also mounted a switch at the front of the case in a blank 3.5" plate to turn it on or off in case the noise got on her nerves.
The fan blows inwards directly at the CPU, a Duron 750 @ 850.
The difference it makes takes only about three minutes to register. It lowers CPU temp (measured via MBM5) from 44C down to 35C. That's a big difference. I have no other fans in this cheapo case and I'm using an Alaska Silver Mountain cooler on the CPU.
I'm surprised this mod hasn't been more widely recognised. It's crude, it's kind of an obvious thing to do, but it works really well.
One other thing. The fan mounting kit/grill came with a filter. When I used the filter, temp rose from 35C to 41C. Again, a big difference, so I didn't use the filter.

Off the list.
Thanks flopp's,I knew the filter would quiet it down but I won't
give up cooling for a small reduction in backround noise.
Wats dat?

ditto here, i got 2 4'-120mm fans on the side of my case in that region, but they are 12v dc fans that are connected the the psu power, i also have 1 120mm AC that i put a power cord on and a light switch just placed it at the top sucking out but it didn't really add anything so i just took it out, but when i did it i only had the one 120mm and no one had told me about it and i thought i was the most creative thing that ever walked the earth, of coarse nothing you can think up hasn't been thought up, still a good idea, origonally i did it b/c my crappy 21 cfm aluminum hs wasn't getting the job done on my brand new 1.0gig cpu, and then it gave me a 10 degree temp drop, but now i have two of them, 8'x4' of cover going over the cpu area all the way down to the upper pci area, so everythings cool, loud as hell though, thats my next job is buying quieter fans, these deltas scream, but like james' site there is www.newark.com hey get a 12'x12'x3' 560cfm fan would problably blow the chips off the board ,

I've got two of those very same fans in my case right now. I also have em on a fanbus that is wired 110v. I posted that I had done it a while back over on forumoc and got into a big debate over the whole thing. {i let the thread just go away quietly}
yeah they are loud but for the cooling they were worth it for my money. I also got a Sunon 120mm 12v at the same time and it is louder than the 110V ones.
It all comes doown to what you can live with.
Thought about the filters but havent gotten em yet. I do have the fan gaurds that would come with the filter kits though. [no shiny chrome ones-- they were out of em the day i was in to pick up the fans]
Anyhow............... Good Luck!

Hey I got the Consumer Version...it's called Panasonic Desktop Fan at Target
6C improvement is sweet James! How loud is that thing though??
And in regards to filters...man they restrict way too much air and if you do a Postive Airflow Case Design your dust collection will be less then the usual Negative Airflow or Equal Airflow Design!

Same thing there. Got me a 250mm desktop fan from Walgreens, open the side panel on a hot day, aims current to side of HSF, and bam, 3C drop.

hehe james, sounds like my dad, origonally trained as an aircraft mechanic , worked for Mahala tire for 15 years(if you remeber that place I wasn't born yet
) and then a watch engineer in a boiler and energy facility at his job, he been promoted into an office for some time now but he can't sleep without an airconditioner, fan, vacuum cleaner or something making noise in a continuous frequency and volume. Been driving my mom insane for just about 30 years

just noticed your last comment lurch. I know the feeling bout the noise. As I work in the music and live event industry I am used to loud music and even louder preachers! [we do a lot of large (arena sized) shows for various church groups]
I get so used to the noise that I have to have tv on at nite just to sleep.
I ithink back to the Bob Seger line from "Turn the Page" ....with the echoes of the amplifiers ringing in your ears....... So true, so true.
