I've been looking into water cooling for several months and have made my mind up to have a go. After talking to one of my customers, who is a Precision Engineer. I have decided to design and manufacture my own block.

If all goes well he said he would manufacture them for me so, I can seel them through my company. As there are only one or two places in the UK to buy water blocks from this could be a good business venture.

So, what I'm looking for is any technical specs regarding the Socket and current waterblocks. Basically I want to make one using "tested" measurements then design my own from it. If all goes to plan I will supply any BBF Members at a super low price.

Any help of info y'all can give me is really appreciated.

Give me a second here, I got a blue print for making a NBridge block, but of course you can increase the ratio a bit to make one for CPU.

I had thought of that on ocassion's.At the moment i am attempting to cast a sterling silver heat sink.

i'm attaching a sketch of the design i was going to make.as far as dimensions,just measure any hs that fits most or all boards for L&W.just be careful with inlet & outlet hose-barbs,can't rout em through a cap.

hmmmm..the only problem i see with that design James is that the water "could" have a chance to sit idle..or actually flow back into the input side..

maybe if you angled the cuts so they leaned toward the input port and directed flow towards the output port??
is this making sense??

How were you thinking of attaching it to the CPU? And if that design was going to be home made, what do you do, form the ridged part then 'braze' a flat base to it?

The chamber would be milled from a solid block,i'd prefer copper.
then a seperate top,bolted all along the edge.

DA:Yup,thats why we call'em prototypes.i planned to mill the chamber,temp a piece of lexan on top,pump clear water through,and inject food coloring into inlet hose intermitently,to observe flow paths and time the exchange from color to clear.

Hmmm - "steady as she goes James" - you put some thought into this James, carry on going matey. Silver is the dogs bollocks for heat transferrence - but tad expensive though

I purchased 15 troy oz's from a seller in AZ.1 ten oz 5 one oz.

the first attempt had some voids because i did not provide vent
holes for each fin (did not want to lose any silver)

WHO's A CHEAP ASS

Next pour i hope to document,with a digi.when you look at some of the prices of HS available,i think silver is the way to go.the larger ingots,are cheaper.including shipping it was only $58.

then i only need add a $10 fan

Now ya got me actually working on the block!

i killed the first design and went for a serpentine flow path.the path is 1/8"wide X1/4"deep(approx 3mm X 6mm)the ribs marked red,i removed because they complicated the inlet/outlet ports.the ports are 1/8" NPT.next i'll make the clamping device.

BTW the pics are scans not digi cam.gasket is 1/8" solid sheet of neoprene.

Good work so far James. I'm still in the design stage at the moment. I have my engineer friend lookinging into materials.

The water block above is made of Aluminum.The heatsink i am CASTING is silver,that will be air cooled.

Z i'm going to try Dowtherm first,I have two 160 ton process chillers at work that use it as the transfer medium.So ya can't beat the price.

i have a question is there a temp which would be "too cold" for a chip, i mean what would happen if you got the chip really really cold, and still managed to keep the moisture away, i was just thinking about it, the chips' components have gerneralized imperdences that are based on resistances within a certain temperature range, what would be too cold, that the properties of the chip would change to an extent that the timing's would be off and it would no longer function? the darn chips make so much heat it doesn't seem like something that would be a problem, but how far would you have to go to make it a problem, and how much would the performance be helped until you got it there?, just some thoughts, but like to say the work you guys doing looks nice, was also thinking about peltier/wet system whenever the next system comes around, i'm going to go all out, but i've decided to wait a while, haven't even had my computer a year, and i've already dumped a ton of money into it, sinc. lurch
