    Question installing new hd

I need help with installing xp on a new HD

The hard drive is a 20.4 gb at fireball ict 20
I insert the boot disk and it says remove nonsystem media..
so i try to boot with cd and it just says "no os found"
    does anyone have a clue

By the way the computer is a 700mhz HP pavilion

i forgot to add eariler i have another hd that gives the this error on the boot up

unable to start windows because system32/ntoskrnl.exe is not there or corrupt. so i hooked the hd to another computer copyed the ntoskrnl.exe to that dir and it still gave the same error

Change the BIOS to boot from CD first. The installation process will lead you through the steps to set up the HD.

First of all, check the boot sequence in your computer's bios setup. I think it's F2 to get in there on an HP, but I can't remember for sure. What I did to find it was tapped a bunch of keys on the last HP system I worked on lol

To boot from floppy (e.g. Windows XP setup disk set that you create by downloading an executable from Microsoft) you have to have the floppy drive FIRST in the boot sequence so that the bios looks there for boot records.

Obtaining Windows XP Setup Boot Disks

Your non-system disk error when you try to boot from floppy, is likely because the hard disk is not prepared. Your computer is most likely set to boot from CD (or maybe hard disk first) right now. That's what this sounds like to me.

However, if the system IS set to boot from CD and it's not working, you won't be the first one unable to boot with their Windows XP CD. It's supposed to be a bootable CD, but it doesn't work on all systems. (bios quirks)

Tapping the Esc button at boot also gets you into Bios on a HP.

Just curious what OS's boot disk are you using?
I've got those same messages before.

One other thing that may or may not pertain-
I've found that I have to put the Windows OS bootable disk (cd) in the Master cdrom drive for it to work. My master being the cdrw. (even though it's cable select)

F1, F2, Del, Esc, and on some systems, Ctrl+Alt+Esc will get you into the BIOS setup.
