    Kernel Problems

Alright. So I got my new hard drive for my laptop, got XP and Slack installed, and compiled a new 2.6.2-mm1 kernel. But, the clicking noise I noticed before is happening again on shutdown, along with a low scratching noise...this does not make me happy, especially with a new drive. Now it does not occur with the bare acpi 2.4.22 kernel that I installed slack with, which leads me to believe that it is somehow related to the kernel(?)
As a side note: the last thing I see before the screen goes blank at shutdown with the 2.4.22 kernel is something to the effect of "flushing all ide devices." Nothing like this on 2.6.2-mm1 shutdown.

Along with this problem, upon shutdown my pcmcia cards are not stopping with the 2.6 kernel, and DHCP configuration on startup is hellaciously slower. Any thoughts???

    Then don't use 2.6.2-mm1, obviously

2.4.24 (soon 2.4.25 will be out) is really the stable kernel. Maybe by 2.6.10 the new one will be ready.
