    free lindows 4.5

Doubt there is many peeps interested in Lindows here, but if anyone wants a free legitmate copy of lindows development edition 4.5 that will install to your hd, not a live trialware. go to this site. follow directions, and make sure when you burn the iso image that you don't finalize the cd.

warning: the downloader will put you in a waiting line which could be a while.

not sure how long this promo will run so..

I'm # 710 in line Dramen, I didn't read anything yet, would you tell me why not finalize the CD? or are you gonna make me go back and find out for myself?

whip, I blew the first cd by trying to finalize, which is normal but in this case (duh, after reading) you need to leave the cd unfinalized. not sure why, but after looking at the iso image with isobuster, i noticed the files are hidden in live_img.z file, which probably makes the cd run as a live cd. but don't worry it is fully installable to hd as would the retail version.

710, so you got quite a wait, just make sure to leave the windows open. Looks like a coffee nite for you

hmmm... I might be sorry for starting this thread :emb:

    So far...

This is a linux install system for those who want nothing to do with the installation. There is no user interaction except for the initial question of what hd or partition to install the system and the name you give your computer. You can only install to 1 hd or partition, no options for setting up other partitions, not even for swap.

make sure you have a partition or hd that you can give up for lindows to takeover. Select advanced!

    Installation problems I encountered:

    1. I had trouble with setting a password, could be because I used other than just numbers and letters. It would complain of error at about 90% of install. So next time I left it blank and set one up after I was running, to which I then noticed that it only uses letters and numbers and must start with a letter.

    2. don't have any other linux filesystems on the pc because lindows will not start up. It just hangs during bootup. I had another linux filesystem and it was no go until I deleted it and then re-installed lindows.

    3. Beware! It will takeover your MBR, it will include your win installations in the menu tho.

I just installed so haven't checked hardly anything yet..

    Please don't kill me

    ohhh

    blahhhhhhh ... LinBlows!!

I should have installed it first b4 posting the link, but didn't know how long it would be good and had no idea it sucked so bad.

I had thought that this might be good for newbies who might want to give linux a fling, but it's horribly slow, buggy.. lousy os. Trash! Don't waste your time.

very sorry to all of you who downloaded LinBlows.

    Actually, that's pretty good feedback
It is harder and harder to make a case to a weary and dismayed population that the Western way of life as managed by the Anglosphere ought to be spread around the world at the point of a gun.

Sounds like it needs a new name to match.... maybe LinBlows 95?

Hahah Dramen... I was going to try it just so I could ridicule it (uhh, being a devout slackware user I know I wouldn't like it), but the long download queues discouraged me from bothering.

You know, I admire Michael Robertson for his battles, but it sure does make it easy to sympathize with MS, when the Lindows OS is nothing but a cheap rip off in its own right.

Grogan, you would have found a plethora of stuff to ridicule

I can't believe how slow this is, running a 1.2 tb 266 with 256mb of pc133 and a ata100 drive and you click on a program and literally forget that you did by the time it eventually pops up.

I really haven't taken the time to play around with it as I got too disgusted. If I can muster some patience then maybe I will investigate further to give it a fair chance. But I can definitly say upfront that no linux enthusiast would want this on their pc.

That's not good, because if it's the first Linux distribution people are exposed to, they are going to think Linux is shit.

    Bill should be thanking Lindows.
