this just happens on one of pcs here at work. All machines identical, all thru a server, running win 2000...whenever the guy tries to listen to music through Win Media or any other player it sound like the chimpmunks are singing..
any clues or solutions?

No, seriously, is it MP3's or wav's or any sound file?
Does he have the latest version of Windows Media Player? (not that that would matter, you said any other player . . . )
Does he have any problem with other sounds? (do a search for *.wav files, and play the biggest of them . . . )

What I's tryin to ask dearie, is does it affect ALL sound file types. wav, wma, mp3, etc...
For isntance, that annoying ass sound that plays when a mail is received. Do those play correct? Ifn so, it's a start..

the way it looks the wav's are okay, but no others.. the annoying ass sounds play just fine...
ok, the next q I have about it, is what is he trying to play? Is it a CD he ripped? Or something he downloaded? Or, is he just trying to play his audio CD's?
If audio CD's, has he tried his headphones in the front of the drive??
downloads, cd(not ripped), music sent by email...none play right all sound speeded up
don't have headphones to plug into drive
