dirty reinstall
I did a search on this and did not find what I was looking for. I am having a few glitches here lately and I am wondering if I do a dirty reinstall of Win98SE will the maintenance wizard take care of all the extra files or will I just have 2 copies of everything taking up space? I don't do well at deletion because I have, in the past, deleted some very important files that I needed. I refuse to ever again tackle a clean reinstall, lordy what a mess that was. Thanx for any help.

A "dirty" reinstall of Windows is to be avoided if you can help it. It doesn't fix all problems and can create more. Sometimes it's the right thing to do, but usually not for minor problems.
No, you won't have two copies of everything, but you will replace some files with older versions again and you will want to reinstall the latest version of IE, and apply any updates that you had before.
Why don't you see if anyone can help solve the problems first, before reinstalling Windows?

Thank you Grogan. I'll follow your advice and maybe start with the system file checker to see if I can isolate the problem.
