    Mandriva...

Like a Polish bride on her wedding night, Mandrake has been thinking about something long and hard. A new name! (ahem... sorry)

    But seriously...

Mandrake, after its merger with Connectiva will now be called Mandriva

I don't know anything about Connectiva, but I don't like the name change. Mandrake was a really cool name and the name Mandriva, I dunno, just invokes the eww factor.

Even when I was a Windows user, and kept hearing about this Mandrake Linux distribution that was so cool, the name was enticing. Mystical, and it inspired awe. I have very fond memories of earlier Mandrake distributions, when I was first discovering. I installed Mandrake 7.0 a few times over the years to play with, just for nostalgia.

Ok, so I'm being silly and sentimental.

Have to agree with you on the new name. Alot of barf factor there.

    How about ConMan!?!

    Sorry.

What happens now to all the gui drak tools?
I know some of you will have fun with this, so I ain't going first!

Mandrake is why I started using Linux in the first place. I hope the change goes well for them.

Well, I got nostalgic so I installed Mandrake 7.0 in vmware, and compiled a newer XFree86 so I could use it with the vmware virtual adapter. (640x480 16 colour VGA if not!)

Good old KDE 1.x. This flies, too. I love this old distro.

Now to build a kernel. I haven't built a Linux 2.2 kernel in a long time. (going to stick with that so I don't have to upgrade my toolchain and module utilities and stuff)

    Actually, that looks pretty neat!
I have an empty partition at the moment, but the oldest Mandrake I have is 8.0. Might just load it up for old times sake as well.
