    Porn-friendly '.xxx' domains approved

"Pornographers and their customers soon will have a virtual red light district reserved just for them.

The nonprofit organization responsible for Internet addresses on Wednesday approved ".xxx" domains, a move that reverses the group's earlier position and heads off a potential political spat with conservative U.S. politicians."

    How cool is that?

why stop at that, why not include .rel for religion, which is just as corrupting and dangerous as porno and change the policy for .org, and .edu domains.
Actually I wish they would restructure the whole TDL naming scheme, and limit such domains as .org for non profit orginizations, .net to actual structured networks, the only few they seem to get right is .com, .gov and .mil.
I doubt that's going to happen of course without the help of Jerry Falwell and the superfriends.

John Dvorak (PC Magazine) proposed something similar years ago, except he suggested changing the www. to xxx.

I think this is a good idea that is way overdue. Parents should not have to continually pay for subscription updates to filter the internet when a simple ".xxx" filter could handle it. Of course, no one will obey "the rules", whatever the rules may develop into, since there is too much money to be made by these sites. The site owners have been using unscrupulous means to trick people not looking for porn to visit their sites since the beginning (consider whitehouse.com), and having the internet cops tell them that they should/shall use .xxx from here forward will not change that.

Even if it was enforceable, like .gov, who determines what is porn and what is not? This approval of .xxx will not change anything - it will still have to be voluntary compliance to voluntary standards.

Of course, I loved the ACLU's take on it:

"Even though the ICM Registry's approach is designed to be free-speech-friendly, the American Civil Liberties Union has expressed concern about .xxx domains. One worry is that some nations may force sites dealing with sensitive topics like homosexuality or birth control into the .xxx zone, where they can be easily blocked."

They can find something to complain about with everything.

Yeah the damn ACLU is always sticking their nose in and attempting to defend peoples constitutional rights while attempting to stay neutral to a political party, but since that makes them appear liberal then they are evil (bill o'reilly campain's constantly to discredit them, so they won't defend women co-wokers when hes attempting to have phone sex with them at work).

The changes of the TDL policy, coupled with shit like this article totally rubs my fur the wrong way
this TDL garbage is totally voluntary from what I understand of it now and has accomplished nothing what so ever but add even more available hostnames for porn lords to run the pay per click services. (yes everytime you click on a womans tits or a mans dick on a webpage someone is getting paid for it, and its actually ad servicies paid by the porn site operator running these porn advertisments whitehouse.com most likely have no clue what sites or the content (they've pasted a java script ad rotator in their webpage and the content is streamed from an ad service) are being placed on their webpage just that they get money when people click on them)

LONDON, Kentucky (AP) -- A Kentucky judge has been offering some drug and alcohol offenders the option of attending worship services instead of going to jail or rehab -- a practice some say violates the separation of church and state.

District Judge Michael Caperton, 50, a devout Christian, said his goal is to "help people and their families."

"I don't think there's a church-state issue, because it's not mandatory and I say worship services instead of church," he said.

Alternative sentencing is popular across the country -- ordering vandals to repaint a graffiti-covered wall, for example. But legal experts said they didn't know of any other judges who give the option of attending church.

Caperton has offered the option about 50 times to repeat drug and alcohol offenders. It is unclear what effect the sentence has had.

David Friedman, a lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky, said the option raises "serious constitutional problems."

"The judge is saying that those willing to go to worship services can avoid jail in the same way that those who decline to go cannot," Friedman said. "That strays from government neutrality towards religion."
I don't hate conservatives but it is hard to respect people who would support the ideas they are putting forth(on a whole science, freedom of non governmenal interference, etc.). Some of those ideas will have a lasting negative effect on our society and country.
IMHO. I think a few years down the road, people are going to wake up and wonder how this was allowed to happen.

But for know we all know that god hates the diadvantaged, homosexuals, the internet, and the ACLU.

no offense Lighthouse but John Dvorak is and always has been an idiot. you can use an xxx prefix or a insertwhateverhereretoday.domain.TLD using wildcard PTR records in dns.
    example:
    http://xxx.socom.sytes.net/
    http://www.socom.sytes.net/
takes you to the same site unless i tell the webserver to redirect the xxx.hostname to another directory.

Rob Enderle, Laura Didio, Maureen O'Gara, John Dvorak and Paul Thurrott are not the most credible sources to obtain technology information from, infact they are somewhat a joke outside the world of netbeiu. They are nothing more than delusional reporters that base their opinions on bad information and 1/2 truth's, sometimes they just down right lie. You will find more information on these people in the Encyclopedia somewhere between cynical and shit.

Why don't you tell us what you really think, boredus?

    No offense taken, btw.
