UD Monitor… Kind of long.
OK, I’m thinking that since it seems that at least three of us are having some kind of issue with UDM it might be good if I posted a copy of an email that I sent to “Roman M” a couple of days ago, he is the guy who wrote UDM.
I sent him the email because there is a thread about these problems over on the WCG forums, but no one posted to the thread after this past August and there was no clear resolution that I can see… the thread is now ‘read only’.

Hopefully we can find someone who has figured a way to fix this little glitch, I really like being able to do two different sub-teams on one PC using UDM and this would be lots easier to do if we can find a fix.
If anyone here has more, or better info please post it.
Here is the email...
“Hi Roman,
On the net you know me as ‘BigFoot’ and you were kind enough to mention my how-to on using UD Monitor with UD on the front page of your site.
http://www.mykimbrell.com/UD%20Monitor.htm
We are now running the WCG cancer research utility and I have found a minor problem that so far I am unable to find a fix for, the details are as follows:
When we were doing UD we often used UDM to run more than one team on a single PC, you can see the details on how to do the setup here…
http://www.mykimbrell.com/tips__faq....n%20one%20name
The process was very simple and worked great for anyone who wanted to divide up the work on their PC and share it with two or more teams, or sub-teams.
I had thought that the same thing could be done with UDM & WCG, but there is a problem when switching between work units in that it throws an error message saying that an instance of UD (WCG) is already running. On two of my PC’s I have UD Monitor installed with each PC having 3 slots for the WCG… on each PC two of the slots are assigned to my ‘family’ sub-team “TobaccovilleKAC” and the third slot assigned to the sub-team “TuffsAngels2” ( both sub-teams are part of the “BitBenderTech WCG Team”
http://www.bitbenderforums.com/vb22/...threadid=68993
When if finishes a work unit and sends it in it will then begin working on that same slot (not switching to the next oldest), but it WILL go to the next slot if it is not able to send in the completed slot.
It also throws the error if you try to manually make the switch, this makes me suspect that the problem may be that the current unit is not being shut down completely, or fast enough before the next one attempts to start.
Do you have any thoughts on what may be causing the issue??? Perhaps some of my settings are configured incorrectly, but as far as I can tell it is setup the same as when we ran UD and we did not have the problem then.
Also, I don’t know if this is related, but on UD Monitor configure window, where it says ‘Running:’ it always reads No, even if you hit the Run button and no matter if the work unit is actually running or not.
Thanks Roman… you assistance will be most welcome.

Just a thought
I was also having the same problem until I deleted wcg from the startup folder.
I created a shortcut from the "udmon-wcg batch file",moved it to the startup folder,no more problem.
Edit-Also make sure "Run on start" is ticked,in the UD Mon settings, when you do the above.

I had already deleted WCG from the startup and had a shortcut to udmon in it. I'll try the batch file one and see what happens.

Possible Fix... Already???
I am not wanting to jump too soon here, but a fix may be at hand already!
EDIT: Looks like Troy beat me to it!!!
After posting the comments and the email above I returned to read through the WCG thread again and in a reply by 'stares' on the 2nd page, about half way down the page and at the bottom of his long reply you find the following line, "Regarding the actual problem. I am running UD Monitor without any problems. However, if I just start UD Monitor, I get similar types of problems. You have to make sure that you launch UD Monitor through the included udmon-wcg.bat, or through a shortcut to "ud_mon.exe -wcg".
So, again… not to get too carried away just yet, but it dose appear to solve the problems that are listed in my first post to this thread, here is what I did:
First; removed the UD Monitor ‘Blue Beaker’ icon from the ‘Start’ folder.
Second; go to the folder where the UD Monitor files are stored, mine is in the same folder with the WCG utility. Send a shortcut copy of the ‘udmon-wcg’ Bat file (MS-DOS Batch File) to my Desktop and place that .bat shortcut into my Startup Folder (Start>All Programs>Startup).
After a restart of the computer all seems to be working as it should, I have been switching between work units to see if it will hang-up or throw an error message, but so far all is well.
If anyone else tries this please post your results, I want to do a note on my UDM how-to but need to be sure this is the fix we are looking for.
Thanks… Ken

That seemed to fix my problem where it said it wasn't running and I can switch between slots without getting an error message now. I also had a problem with the slots when one was finished. It wouldn't switch to the next. Maybe that error was the problem there. I'll see when this wu gets done if it switches to the next slot or not.

I've uploaded one work unit each from both Kay's PC and mine and eveything seemed to go OK, have to let it do a couple of cycles to make sure, but it looks good so far.
I get the same as you on the 'Running' part, it is working correctly now.

According to the logs it switched during the night and sent in results. If you look at the slots though it till has an old date in it.

Just checked Kay’s PC and it shows two Cached WU’s with today’s date (11/20/05) and the one that it is currently processing with yesterdays date. My PC is a lot slower; it shows them as 11/18, 19 & 20… that sounds about right.
Also played with the switching commands for a while and everything still seems to work as expected.

Well I had to reregister one of the slots again. Since no one else is having these problems looks like its on my end. Maybe I need to reinstall or something.
