    Hard Drive ribbon cable

In the overexposed photo note that the ribbon cable of the integrated controller has been pulled loose.

Is this repairable? Is it DOA? Time for a Viking funeral?
As I was, so I remain until he returns.

If the white bit just below the cable is the connector, Ya should be able to repair it.

Kinda hard to tell from the pic. If it's anything like those in my notebook computer, The connector should have two parts.
The part connected to the circuit board and as part of it a lock to hold the cable in place.

I've also run across a few connectors where you have to (Carefully) just shove the cable in to them.

I say carefully cause you don't want to fold/crease the cable.

Cas....off topic an all.. but I gotta know.. what was in the upper left corner during that shot that had "tear here" imprinted?

Was it a snack...Or, perhaps a copmuter related usage tool, like a condom? If so, was it one of them that if ya tear too far down it damages the "insert"? - I know I hate those myself.

Other things I can think of.....A Nestles Nutty Buddy Ice cream cone - Also a computer desk fav, and has also been known to leave white tainted droplets of residue on the desktop in moments of poor aim

So, inquiring, sicko minds... wanna know

Ahh the ol load em up with sugar n send em home trick! nice..

on topic tho, the dirve should be fine if got the cable in securely. As Cat pointed out, some of those have a little shoulder around the opening that pulls out about 1/8" to make the cable a zero insert force. push the cable to the back of the connector, then push in the shoulder that forces the cable down to the contacts, and usually clicks into place. very common on those damn laptops that require you to have 10" long fingers that are under 1/4" thick in order to reassemble them.

My Mum tends to do that on a regular basis.

Not getting good results, it sounds the Bernoulli click of death running in a loop.

recheck that connection. use a magnifier if you need too.
that cable is the spinup, it controls the platter drive motor.the click of death is usually the result of the platters no spinning. "stiction" and dont; ask me how I know about that....
