    Acronis True Image

Just wondering what peeps think of Acronis True Image?

I bought it quite a few years ago when I had a Sony Vaio laptop, and was less than overjoyed to find that the Linux based Acronis would not even work on that laptop.

    Any opinions?

I have it GK. I've not had a meltdown that I needed to use the backups its making. Guess I'm in trouble if its a pile of poo. I don't have the new version. I'm still using 9.0.

If you tried it years ago, you'd find that a modern version is much improved. I tried it back when it first came out (Alex at pcnineoneone got us a free copy) and it had a lot of issues. Can't say that the boot CD and program is going to work on any given laptop this time either though, it just depends on the hardware.

I bought Acronis True Image 10 mostly for a one time operation on my parents' Dell PC to move their setup to a new hard disk, using DVD+R media (didn't want to put a second hard disk in that Dell... marginal power supplies in those models and they lack the means to properly mount one) but I keep the Linux based boot CD in my bag. I used it once on a PC, but I generally don't bother with cloning on customer systems because it's just a waste of time to clone all the problems anyways in most cases. If there are bad sectors on a hard disk the process is likely to fail anyways.

I'd give that software a good vote. It served the purpose, but I don't really use it much anymore. I occasionally make a new image of my parents' PC but I haven't in some time because I'm hoping it will fail. I'm sick of the damned thing and it's time for a new, more modern computer for them. I just back up their data files manually for that eventual day.

Thanks Gro, I may give it another try.
