McCrappy? I remove that shitware on sight. I don't care if they've paid for it. (I do the same with Norton... and I'll help them get a refund if they've just bought it) They can get someone else to work on their computers if they insist on using it because I refuse to have it get in my way.

While I don't remove it, I don't install or recommend Kaspersky because I don't like it. It's fairly resource intensive and it's really not as good as people rave about. (Nothing is)

    Fuck these bullies.

Now... I have no sympathy for SpyBot Search and Destroy's TeaTimer. That is good for nothing but trouble and the software installer should make the user check the boxes themselves for any of that real time shit and immunization, rather than making them uncheck the boxes.

Another thing that probably makes SpyBot Search and Destroy a "black sheep" is that they have no reservations about removing any nuisance software, or policies. (possibly undermining "system administrators" lol). I am grateful for that, because some of these policies set by malware also disable registry editing and having spybot reset them means less work for me.

I consider Spybot shitware if it's not installed properly, and on any computer that I don't install it on, it's installed with all that real time monitoring shit.

I agree, that all that shit should be unchecked by default.

Tea timer is something I wont use.
I do use the guard on Avira, and never had a problem with it.

I remember back in the day Norton doing this with Zone Alarm, Windows Defender and maybe Spybot. I think that started with Antivirus 2007 maybe? I don't remember. It was definitely another reason to hate Norton. I remember that much.

You need to use the guard with Avira (real time protection). It should prevent most malware. That's the most important part of antivirus software.

The most important part of antispyware software is, however, the scanner. Specialized techniques for removing that class of malware.

Well I'm confused now.... not sure what any of this even means.

All I do know is that when I downloaded Spybot last night I think there was something there that I needed to uncheck if I wanted to and one of those things was TeaTime (sp) or something like that and something else also that I can't remember now. I do know I unclicked them and now I guess I'm wondering if it was something I needed and if Spybot is working right since I may have messed up on the installation.

You dont want tea timer to be running.
If it is running it will be showing in your task bar as shown in the pic.
I only turned it on to show you.

    Ok good, it's not there.

I do think the other thing that I un-clicked possibly was the scanner. I'm not sure, I just know there were two things I un-clicked when I set it up but I sure can't remember now what they were.

Thanks Troy, at least I know I'm safe on that one.

Edit: I don't even see where I can turn it on, we are talking Spybot, right?

Hey you! Honestly you are probably right. Maybe I better leave well enough alone.

I did try to find it and still can't but maybe that's because mine is set to "default mode." Is that ok though?

I would not use SpywareBlaster. It junks up your registry with too much restricted sites and activex killbit crap. It's the wrong approach and is not terribly effective. For everything they block, there are thousands more.

I've seen computers rife with malware, with SpywareBlaster blocking. It probably helps a little, but not worth the kludge that it is.

Now I'm even more lost. Is SpywareBlaster another name for Spybot? I thought you said to use it.

If SpywareBlaster is something different I'm not using it. Maybe you weren't talking to me at all.

Don't worry about the Spybot install. If in doubt, the more you un-check prior to installing, the better off you are.
